04/14/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO 04/14/16 11:15 Basic Info: Chocolate A1070288 is a 1 yr. old spayed female brown and white brindle AMPBT mix who was given to the owner from a breeder and is being surrendered because the owner is physically unable to take care of her. She was last seen by a veterinarian in 2015 and currently has no known health issues/injuries. Socialization: Around strangers, Chocolate is very friendly and excitable. She jumps up and bounces around when happy. She has been around children and plays exuberantly with them. She lived in the home with a cat. She played gently and respected the cat in the home. She gets excited and barks when she sees other dogs on her walks. Chocolate has never bitten/scratched any person or animal. Behavior: Chocolate isn't bothered by the following: having her food/food bowl, toys/treats touched/moved, being moved off of furniture, being brushed or being disturbed while sleeping/resting. For bath time Chocolate will jump into the tub. She hasn?t had her nails trimmed. If someone approaches the home/family member Chocolate wants to play. The owner stated that Chocolate has being chewing on her couch when she leaves her alone in the house. For A New Family to Know: Chocolate is friendly, affectionate, playful, confident, mellow, excitable & independent with a very high activity level. The owner likes her puppy eyes and that she likes to give hugs and lots of kisses. Chocolate enjoys playing. She enjoys squeaky toys and games of fetch, chase, wrestling & tug. Chocolate is mostly an indoor only dog that sleeps anywhere & is walked 2-3x a week by the owner?s son where she pulls on her leash. Chocolate eats wet & dry Gravy Train 2x a day and given Milk Bone dog treats. Her favorite snack is baked chicken and left overs. She will have accidents in the home if someone takes too long to take her out. Intake Behavior: Chocolate allowed all handling. She allowed to be scanned (+), collared & taken pictures of including positioning her during her photo session which was a little difficult as she was very wiggly and wanted to jump up and play with us. But at one point, when she was leashed, she cowered down really low and began to squeal. She did this twice. She was carried and placed inside of her kennel.

04/16/2016 WEB MEMO A volunteer writes: A swirling combination of dark and milk chocolate, her coat gleams with good care, and her personality is as sweet as..! Happy and bouncy, Chocolate's tail never stops wagging, she never stops smiling, and a stranger is just that for about 1/2 a second before they've been moved onto the friends list. She?s not shy about giving kisses to anyone that wants one, and everyone that we meet on our walk seems to want a chocolate kiss! Surrendered by her family because her owner can no longer take care of her, we?re told that she's 'friendly and excitable', lived with a cat with whom she was gentle and respectful, barks at other dogs when out on a walk, doesn't guard her 'stuff', jumps into the tub when it's time for a bath, is housetrained when walked regularly, likes Milk Bone treats and her favorite snack is baked chicken and leftovers, and likes to give hugs and lots of kisses. Fun and friendly Chocolate is alert and curious to the sounds and sights as we walk and hang out in the backyard pen and her favorite place to be is on my lap or chilling out sitting on the bench next to me. Her tail never stops wagging, she's eager and fun and ready to find a new person or family to take care of. A petite 41 lbs., she's ready to find her corner of your home and your heart.

04/16/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION - EXPERIENCE Exam Type BEHAVIOR Chocolate came to us as an owner surrender due to the owner being elderly and unable to properly care for Chocolate. According to the owner Chocolate is very friendly toward children and strangers, and jumps up and bounces when around them. She isn't bothered is someone food, toys or treat moved or taken from her. When entering the behavior room Chocolate had very excited and wiggly body language. She greeted the assessor by jumping up with loose body language. Chocolate did constantly jump on the assessor throughout the assessment, but did so in a playful manner. She allowed the assessor to conduct all tactile assessment items while maintaining her soft body language. She joined in play during the tag interaction jumping up on the assessor a bit strongly but remaining playful. She only displayed minimal interest in the toy item on this portion of the assessment. We believe that Chocolate can go to a home with an experienced adopter at this time due to her playgroup notes. Look: 1. Dog leans forward or jumps up to lick the Assessor?s face with tail wagging, ears back and eyes averted. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. She indicates play with huffing, soft 'popping' of the body, etc. Dog jumps on Assessor once play begins. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy: 1. Minimal interest. Dog smells, licks and mouths, then walks away. Chocolate is vocal when greeting the helper dog through the gate, but she maintains a loose body and wagging tail. When the door is opened she rushes in and jumps onto the helper dogs back; she puts her mouth on his neck (does not close it) and growls. He attempts to run away and Chocolate remains on top of him growling; she only ceases with pet corrector. She relaxes a bit once separated and the helper male approaches softly, she greets nicely then jumps onto him again, mouth on his neck, growling. Pet corrector is again used and she is removed from the pen.

04/15/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR Chocolate has shown vast improvement in learning to socialize with other dogs during her stay at the care center. Her initial interaction is detailed below, but she was stiff, assertive and exhibited a total lack in social skills. She now is able to interact in a large group of dogs, both male and female, with a neutral body and is not assertive or inappropriate. She engages other dogs in chase and will offer bows to solicit play. Chocolate does become aroused after an extended play session and may begin to vocalize at dogs that have a rough play style. Her owner reports that she gets excited and barks when she sees other dogs on her walks, but she has not ever lived with another dog so any in-home behaviors with them are unknown. The behavior department recommends a pre-adoption interaction as well as making sure Chocolate has structured play sessions with the resident dog. Chocolate is vocal when greeting the helper dog through the gate, but she maintains a loose body and wagging tail. When the door is opened she rushes in and jumps onto the helper dogs back; she puts her mouth on his neck (does not close it) and growls. He attempts to run away and Chocolate remains on top of him growling; she only ceases with pet corrector. She greets tense then jumps onto the helper dogs back and vocalizes when he begins to run through the pen. When he does not engage she begins to bark and snap into his face. 4/20 update: Chocolate begins to engage in pushy play with a small group of playful males. She is less tense-bodied throughout the interaction. When leashed to exit the pen, she becomes reactive, tenses and barks at the other dogs. 4/21 update: Chocolate engages and runs alongside a group of playful males and females. When approaching a less playful dog, she briefly begins to vocalize and stand over their shoulders, but ceases once interrupted. 4/22 update: Chocolate is less tense and will engage in brief play in a large group of dogs.
