Flannery O'connor A44070676 Intake Type: (3/24) Stray -- Public Drop Off Flannery O'connor is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to behavior and medical concerns. Flannery O'connor is available for placement only to RESCUE and must have confirmed placement by MARCH 26TH 5:30PM. Flannery O'connor urgently needs to leave the shelter because he has demonstrated concerning behaviors in care including lunging, hard-barking, with very tense body language in his kennel. He also has a large tumor on side that he is self-traumatizing by chewing at causing moderate bleeding. Confirmed placement is considered confirmation of an actual rescue pull. Possible placement, interested parties, and other "TBD" statuses are not considered confirmed and do not indicate an animal is no longer urgent. If you are an adopter interested in this pet, you must connect with a rescue partner that is willing to pull on your behalf. Medical Observation: (3/24) Vet Check -- Patient has a large tumor on side that he is self-traumatizing by chewing at causing moderate bleeding. High level of trazodone appears to decrease this behavior but not eliminate. Patient is too reactive to have an e-collar placed. Patient is currently stable for end of stray hold but should leave with rescue willing to work with behaviorally and medically (urgent removal and biopsy of mass). (3/24) Vet Check -- Patient is a senior dog with a large, ulcerated mass on right side of chest. Due to anxious, overstimulated behavior, a hands on exam was not perform. Patient also has some bleeding from the mouth that appears to be coming from a cut on the tongue, but due to inability to perform full hands on exam- cannot rule out additional areas of bleeding in mouth. Recommend patient leave urgently with rescue willing to perform senior work up and mass removal and biopsy. (3/24) Intake -- Reportedly growled at people in the lobby, but did not resist muzzling or injections during intake; tolerated visual exam. Behavior Observation: (3/24) Per Vet Staff -- Last night, patient became increasingly aggressive in kennel- growling, bearing teeth and lunging at cage door when approached by staff. Patient today is less reactive- but still showing distancing signs- whale eyeing, tense body, fixed gaze. (3/24) Per Vet Staff -- Patient was very anxious during examination- panting, side eyeing, growled at Animal Care Attendant during leashing (3/24) Per Finder -- growled at finders wife but was fine with finder when he gave the dog water This animal may be available through ACCT Philly's Adoption Program.
