About ej: EJ ACCT-A-133645 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to behavioral concerns. EJ must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER by Sunday, March 12th by 10:00 am. Should EJ's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Meet EJ! EJ is a 4 year old unaltered brindle boy. EJ came to us on the 6th when his owners could no longer keep him due to guarding behaviors in the home. EJ's owner expressed that he is a wonderful dog who loves everyone he meets. He said EJ grew up with small children and is very affectionate with them and strangers. The owner also shared that EJ has always guarded bones, toys, and food ever since he was a puppy. Recently, EJ began to guard a new crate bed the owner bought him and would growl, fixate, and would not leave the crate. While the family loved EJ they did not want to risk the safety of their small children due to the guarding behavior. It is recommended EJ goes to a single pet placement due to his guarding behavior. Since being in the shelter EJ has been nervous, but warms up outside. On the 8th staff took EJ outside and said the following, "EJ was well mannered and sweet outside. He gave both of us low wags and would approach for pets. He gave soft eye contact and would begin to wag more when speaking to him. He allowed all handling and would lean in as the handler pet him and give kisses. Aside from his history of guarding he did well outside. He could be shy at times but overall warmed up quickly. He was stressed and shedding excessively while outside, but would seek out comfort from his handlers. When toys were brought out during his eval he did tense up and had a c shaped mouth. He never took possession of anything but would change in his demeanor. EJ was easily removed and returned to his kennel. EJ urgently needs to leave with a rescue partner equipped to handle his guarding behavior and safely manage it before placing him in a home environment.
