'The behaviors described today reflect the dog's responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A
dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and
unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change
based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.'
Sandy A5770682 was at the front of the kennel jumping and barking at the dogs (aroused), the runner called her, it took her
a few seconds for her to acknowledge her, she greeted her with a relaxed demeanor. She was eager to exit the kennel, and
she strongly pulled towards the dogs, she growled and barked at them. The runner had to use firm leash control to move her
away from them. She jumped up to bite the leash a few times, she was mouthy with the runner and required a lot of leash
control to walk through the kennels. In the catch pen when she was introduced to the dogs her body was relaxed, her eyes
were soft, her tail wagged neutrally and her mouth was open with a soft pant. She was mouthy when being collared and
leashed. She ran inside the yard and began to play with the dogs. She chased them, her body was relaxed her eyes were soft
and her tail wagged neutrally. She jumped on the handlers constantly and bit them (playful mouthiness), she had to be
corrected often. She played with the dogs the remaining of her time in the yard. Overall, Sandy was social with the dogs and
would benefit best in a push/pull yard. Behaviorally ok for public adoption, adults only recommended, large dogs ok no
small dogs required with a KHOA for resource guarding against small dogs.
