About sarge: Sarge Animal ID ACCT-A-249855 Breed Terrier, Pit Bull Sex Male Weight 80.1 lbs Age 3Y/0M/3W Location Large Dog Kennel, C3 Attributes Blue Good Dog Meet (In Shelter) Sarge ACCT-A-249855 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Sarge must have confirmed placement with an ADOPTER or RESCUE PARTNER by FRIDAY, JUNE 5TH at 10AM. Should Sarge's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Law enforcement brought Sarge to ACCT, so we don't know much about his life prior. Weighing 80 lbs, Sarge is a lot of dog. Given his rambunctious nature, he would do best in an active home that can prioritize an outlet for his energy while also providing structure and basic training. Sarge is very motivated by higher-value snacks, and loves his toys, but he sometimes doesn't understand that a leash isn't always a toy, and has, on occasion, gotten mouthy with excitement. While Sarge has been described as a "bull in a china shop," we'd like to note that bulls are actually very aware of their size and can be quite nimble. And we think that Sarge could learn a thing or two from a bull about not disrupting anything in a china shop. When Sarge isn't bouncing around the play yard, he's quite focused on his handler and enjoys their close company. He settles down when he has the opportunity to run around, and has been quite content to sprawl on his back and receive belly rubs. "Strong pull--some leash biting coming out of the yard, loved high-value treats for redirection." 5/30 Energy: M. "Tried in playgroup [he was] too strong for an older girl and left almost immediately. Gave him extra food." 5/30 Playgroup: Steerable with spray bottle (2/5) but not shake can (0/5). Flops and hops in the yard, excited. Appropriately greeted Chevy Chase, then romped over to Starfish, attempting to engage in rough/rowdy play, but bowled her over and needed to be steered off after Starfish began yelping and yowling. Removed from yard shortly afterward. 5/26 Dog meet with Ramos Good greetings, loose body and disengaged on his own. 5/26 per Volunteer Rowdy & jumpy, but still easy to leash. Trying to push past you, Excited and big but manageable. Pulled moderately, Jumping on you, Goofy boy, bounced around between me and all the smells. No, I did not handle the dog. Walked right into kennel and unleashed without issue. Sarge was excited but manageable all the way down to the pen. Once we got inside, he pooped first and then I dropped the leash as I picked it up. Sarge did a small lap of the pen and came bouncing back to me super excited. Jumped up on me and then started mouthing at my gown and escalating to biting at the leash all in like a minute. I grabbed his leash and steered him towards the gate. He was still jumping as we moved but he stopped biting. We left the pen and just walked up and down the grass patch in the border of pens so he could sniff around and get his walk in. I tried twice to get his face for a photo and when I got his attention he would start jumping again so I stop to minimize his overstimulation. He didn't seem malicious but just got quickly overstimulated and didn't know what to do with himself. We walked back inside without a problem and he went right into his kennel. 5/17 per Volunteer Easy to leash, came right to the front. Pulled moderately Yes, I handled the dog. At first, sarge was jumpy after I pet him. But after walking with him and having him run around in the run, he settled down. Sarge would sit or lie at my feet for pets. He would also lean into me and curl his body into my legs for attention. If I stopped petting him, he would nudge my hand. A couple of times, he rolled onto his back for belly scratches. Walked right into kennel and unleashed without issue Sarge has a nice playful energy. He was a little jumpy at first, but he stopped when I ignored him. He was much more calm after he had the chance to exercise. He wasn't interested in toys while we were in the run and mostly sought my attention for treats and pets. He will sit for treats and can be grabby when accepting them. Behavior Eval 5/15 Kennel Presentation: Sitting calmly on his bed when I approached, then came up to the front of the kennel. Had loose body language when I opened the door and I very easily leashed him although he tried to push out as soon as he was leashed so just be aware of that. Leash Skills: Pulls minimally on leash and very in touch with his handler's leash pressure. Sociability: Definitely has a really bad cough and isn't feeling too great today. When we got to the yard, he started to romp and gently run around and seems to love being outside! Met another dog through the fence with a loose body. Very treat motivated and takes treats gently out of my hand even though he's such a big boy. He's quite jumpy and a little bit mouthy in a very goofy way where he's so excited to be with you. I would recommend older kids as he's a bit of a bull in a china shop. Play: Very playful and love to play with toys! Allowed me to approach him when he had a toy without guarding it. Dog Interaction: Return to Kennel: Really sweet and playful boy, no issues returning to his kennel. Color Level: Gave him blue due to some excitement and overstimulation. 5/14 per Staff Sleeping on his bed when I approached. Got up with baby talk, soft eyes, ears back, mid tail wags, loose body. Took a treat gently through the bars. Tried to push his way out of kennel when he backed up I was able to easily leash. Strong on leash and pulled strongly towards another dog, mid tail, ears back. He was coughing and seemed sick so we went back inside. He stopped outside his kennel ears back, low tail. Tossed in a treat which he looked at then back at me, tossed in a few more and he hopped in. Was able to remove my leash easily.
