Maduro was at the front of the kennel with a neutral demeanor when the female runner approached. When a male runner approached the kennel, Maduro moved to the back of the kennel and began to bark in a defensive manner. He startled himself when he jumped up and bumped his head on the divider door. He returned to the front of the kennel to greet the female runner with a neutral body, neutral gaze, and a neutral tail. He was easy to leash and remove from the kennel, but immediately pressed his body to the ground and refused to walk. He required coaxing and gentle pressure on the leash to walk. The runner moved slowly, and was able to collar him with no issues. In the catch pen, his body was tense, his eyes were wide, and his tail was tucked. He required coaxing and pressure on the leash to enter the yard. He sat by the fence with a tense body, concerned eyes, ears back, and a tucked tail, and did not greet the other dogs. He eventually began to roam the yard, but continued to keep his distance from the other dogs for a long time. After a while, he engaged in gentle play with the other dogs. Maduro is tolerant of the other dogs, has a medium energy level, and prefers a gentle-dainty playstyle. He was moved to the side yard, and given a few moments to decompress before the handler entered the yard. He was wary of the handler at first, but slowly began to approach her when she sat on the bench. He placed his head on the handler?s leg, and allowed the handler to pet his head, neck, and back, with no issues. The handler was able to check his ears and teeth. He allowed the handler to pet his sides and abdomen, but became uncomfortable as the assessment progressed. The handler asked another handler to gently restrain him with the leash while the handler touched his tail and paws. His body tensed, and he tried to pull away from the handler. His eyes were wide, his tail was tucked, and he appeared to be very uncomfortable. He did not growl or try to bite during the assessment. When the assessment was over, Maduro did not want to return to his kennel, and required coaxing and gentle pressure on the leash to get him to walk to the kennel.
