About lonestar: Lonestar Animal ID ACCT-A-251863 Breed Mixed Breed (Medium) Sex Male Weight 46.5 lbs Age 1Y/0M/3W Location Large Dog Kennel, A8 Attributes Good Dog Meet (In Shelter) Bad Dog Meet (In Shelter) Waiver: Dog Selective/Reactive Blue Adult-Only Home Preferred Lonestar ACCT-A-251863 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Lonestar must have confirmed placement with an ADOPTER or RESCUE PARTNER by THURSDAY, JULY 2ND at 10AM. Should Lonestar's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Lonestar is the kind of dog who makes friends everywhere he goes. This handsome, affectionate boy has earned a reputation for being a total charmer who adores people, leans in for affection, and happily shows off his "sit" for treats. Volunteers & Staff consistently describe him as sweet, friendly, trainable, and eager to connect. Whether he's hiking a trail, riding calmly in the car, or simply soaking up butt scratches and pets, Lonestar thrives when he's spending time with his favorite humans. An active, intelligent dog, Lonestar is looking for an adopter or rescue who can help him continue building on his training while giving him plenty of opportunities to explore. He is highly food motivated, responds well to direction with treats, and has shown he enjoys learning and engaging with his handlers. While he can become overstimulated around other dogs and would do best as the only dog in the home, away from other dogs he settles into the affectionate, goofy companion everyone has fallen in love with. If you're looking for a loyal hiking buddy, cuddle partner, and best friend, Lonestar is ready to shine. Tossed in treats to move him back which he ate quickly then came back up to the front, I had a treat ready, based on walk sheet notes that mentioned jumpy when trying to leash, and was able to easily leash with a treat lure. Once leashed came right out and jumped on the kennel next to him, tense body, ears forward, fast mid to high tail, growling. I quickly got him moving and fast tracked him out of the kennels, he would pull towards the dogs in crates and side banks that we passed, high wagging tail, ears forward, tenser body. Outside he shook off and walked pulling mildly, mid tail wags, looser body, ears to the side, would stop to sniff. There were dogs in both cold club yards so we hung out on the grass nearby, he would pull towards the other dogs, ears forward, mid tail, tense body, closed mouth. He is very food motivated and I was able to redirect him with treats. The dogs in the yard were further away, when they came closer he would pull towards them again with the same body language and I was able to redirect him again with treats. He is very snatchy with treats so I tossed them. When treats came out he started to get jumpy and would jump up in the air towards my hands ears back, mid tail wags, open mouth. By tossing the treats I was able to redirect the jumpiness as well. He allowed all handling remaining all four paws on the floor, loose body, ears back, mid tail wags. Walking back there was a dog about 20ft behind us, he would occasionally look back and pull mildly towards the dog, by calling his name and tossing a treat when he turned back towards me I was able to keep him moving. Walking back through the kennels I kept him on a shorter leash, he pulled towards the dogs in crate again with the same body language. When we got to his kennel he hopped right in and I was able to remove my leash easily by hand with a treat on the ground. Very trainable and would make a great companion for the right person. 06/10/2026 ' Per Day Trip Foster (6/9) Took Lonestar to the Wissahickon with ice water and treats. After about 15 minutes, he did a great job checking in with eye contact and generally wanted to walk next to the handler. They took several breaks where he happily drank water and enjoyed snacks. Occasionally, he became excited and jumped up. He was kept away from other dogs but remained generally curious and alert around them, only barking if another dog barked first. He was friendly with people they encountered and happily accepted pets from strangers. They met the people who originally found him, who recalled that Lonestar had been with another dog. He wasn't interested in going into the water but enjoyed the walk with frequent rest breaks. He especially loved the cold water, treats, and resting close against his handler during breaks for snuggles. He enjoyed chasing chipmunks and birds, relieved himself appropriately on the outing, rode well in the car, and was described as "such a good boy." 06/08/2026 Kennel Presentation: Loose and wiggly in his kennel, jumping on the kennel door. Intake (06/02/2026) Found running at large Behavior Recommendations * Adult-only home. * Children 12+ due to jumpiness and being snatchy with treats. * Would do best as the only dog in the home due to reactivity toward other dogs.
