About mia: Intake Info: Mia (A1914149) went missing in 2018 and was recently located. Her previous owner currently lives out of state. Medical: Mia is estimated to be 10 years old. She has not been able to be fully processed due to her current behavior and is on FAS medication. Staff Notes: Mia is very fearful and unsocial in the kennel environment. She has displayed whale eye, trembling, avoidance, and shutting down when approached. Behavior Notes: Mia was found lying on the kennel floor when staff approached her. When her kennel was opened, she moved herself into a corner. She was loop-leashed and gently coaxed out. The kennel noise appeared to increase her fear, causing her to tremble and army crawl. Once away from the noise, Mia eventually stopped moving and became very shut down. When the loop leash came off, she did not attempt to run or move. Mia urinated and defecated when pressure was placed on the leash to encourage her to move. She was eventually coaxed outside but remained near the metal doors. On the patio, she allowed staff to pet her all over, but remained very stiff with her tail tucked. When a hand was brought toward her, she would close her eyes and lower herself until the hand moved away. She later allowed staff to remove her leash and continue gentle petting. Mia would not walk back to her kennel and had to be carried. Mia has not shown aggression toward staff, but she is extremely fearful and can shut down when overwhelmed. Request to Rescues: Mia is in need of a rescue due to how fearful and shut-down she is. Mia will need time, patience, and a quiet environment to decompress and build trust. She has allowed gentle handling and pets but remains very stiff, keeps her tail tucked, and does not walk well on leash at this time. Her previous owner reported that Mia was fearful and that they had been working on socialization. No aggression has been observed while she's been our care.
