This beautiful little girl was found in the lobby of her building and appears to have recently given birth, which means that she's absolutely stellar if she received the highest behavior rating right after someone took her babies away. Sharlene has a gorgeous dark and light brown brindle coat that really sparkled on the sunny day we went for a walk. She is a little stiff on the lead but had a good idea of what she should be doing by the end of the walk. We took a minute to sit in the grass in the park and Sharlene took a few moments to sniff around before coming over to nuzzle in close for some attention. She has that wonderful way of closing her eyes when you pet her and, with me sitting cross legged on the grass, put her head on my shoulder and leaned into my chest while I gave her a good scratch. Sharlene has had a tough existence so far -- her right ear has been cut about a quarter of the way through by some butcher that wanted her to get mauled in a dog fight -- and she needs someone to come take her home and let her start again. This caring, happy girl also appears to be house-broken because she got as far as she could from the shelter before peeing. Come take Sharlene home from the animal shelter in Manhattan today. 06/02/2011 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION - MILD Exam Type BEHAVIOR Look 1 :Dogs eyes are averted with soft body ,wagging tial ,long lip and ears back ,dog calmly allows her head to be held loosely in the assessors cupped hands Sensitivity 1 :Dog stands still, accepts touch while soft in body with low tail wagging and ears back Tag 2 :Dog is not fearful ,but is unresponsive to the assessor ,approaches with soft body and wagging tail when coaxed after play Squeeze 1 :Dog gnetly pulls back her paw Squeeze 2 1 :Dog gently pulls back her paw Food 3 :Dog gulps the food, begins to eat faster with bigger bites Toy 1 :No interest Rawhide 1 :No interest Dog to dog 1 :Approaches the helper dog with soft body ,wagging tail and ears back Helper898227 05/29/2011 INITIAL PHYSICAL EXAM Medical rating was 2 NC - MINOR CONDITIONS NOT CONTAGIOUS, behavior rating was NO CONCERN Scan negative Barh Mild tartar Nosf 06/04/2011 RE-EXAM (LAST MAJOR EXAM) Medical rating 3 C - MAJOR CONDITIONS , behavior rating MILD BAR, energetic, friendly coughing, serous nasal discharge adequately hydrated, H/L and abdominal palpation NSF several focal areas of annular alopecia on front paws and forelimbs. skin scrape negative. start on doxycycline 250mg po SID x 10 days monitor areas of alopecia appearance is consistent with focal demodex despite negative skin scrape - no treatment needed unless lesions are increasing in size or number or spreading DO NOT call and say you are adopting unless you are going to go down there and get the dog. It is a waste of the staff's time to explain the adoption procedure over the phone, for someone to purposely not show up? They need every free second of their time to process Lost and Found checks and care for the animals. Not to mention people will think the dogs is safe and then they die.
