About tulsa: I am a neutered male brown and white american staff mix. The shelter thinks I am about 4 YEARS old.

I came in the shelter as a STRAY on 03/02/2017 from NY 11216, owner surrender reason stated was STRAY.

03/06/2017 Exam Type - PRE/POST S/N ? Medical Rating is 2 NC - MINOR CONDITIONS, NOT CONTAGIOUS. Behavior Rating is EXPNOCHILD. Weight is 84.6 LBS.

PE: WNL. Exam & surgery performed by Dr. 1067. Canine neuter Anesthesia - 0.85mL Telazol induction. Intubated. Isoflurane/O2 maint. Sx. - Routine prescrotal castration. Subcuticular closure with absorbable suture. Green linear tattoo placed lateral to incision. 3.4ml Rimadyl injectable and 0.1.9ml Hydromorphone for pain management.

03/02/17 11:51 Tulsa was growling inside the crate. When he was taken out of the crate he stopped growling and pulled on the leash but walked well.

03/05/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION - EXPNOCHILD

Exam Type - BEHAVIOR

KNOWN HISTORY: None. 3/2/17; Unaltered male, Stray. Other notes: Tulsa would growl, and did not allow all handling. SAFER ASSESSMENT: 3/4/17 Look: 1. Dogs eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessors cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dogs mouth is open for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 3. Dog responds with his tail high, ears forward, easily aroused, mouth open for at least half of the assessment item, body tense. Flank squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all. Flank Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all. Toy 1: No interest. Summary: Tulsa was a bit tense with his tail high throughout his assessment. He allowed all handling. He was receptive to petting, and accepted treats. DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Summary PLAYGROUP: Tulsa was surrendered as a stray so his past behavior around dogs is unknown. When greeting a novel female dog, Tulsa immediately becomes stiff and begins barking at the other dog. An attempt was made to place a muzzle on him, but due to his uncomfortable body language - hard staring and becoming stiff- when being handled, a muzzle was not able to safely be placed on him at this time. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 3/2/17 Tulsa tolerated handling during his initial medical examination. ENERGY LEVEL: Tulsa displays a medium energy level in the care centers.

RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (Suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience). No children (under 13): Tulsa tolerates limited handling. During the Tag item, Tulsa pulls towards the assessor and becomes a tad bit vocal. He displays a low threshold for arousal as he escalated during the tag portion. Though he recovered well, Tulsa maybe a bit intimidating by children in the home. Tulsa appears to become uncomfortable with up close handling, and will need a slow approach and time to adjust to his new environment. Due to his strength and size, we advise against a home with children at this time. Single-dog home/Recommend no dog parks (Due to Tulsas reactivity towards other dogs, the Behavior Department recommends that he not be placed in a home with other dogs or socialized until his behavior towards other dogs can be further investigated once he has adequate time to decompress from the shelter environment.) Potential challenges: Fearful/potential for defensive aggression: Tulsa has been observed to display fearful behavior during his stay at our care centers; at times will avoid interaction and shy away from direct-touch. Tulsa easily startles and is made uncomfortable by loud noises and sudden movement and will display proper warning signals as well as increase distance from anything that may present a threat. We cannot be certain if any other behavior is suppressed as a result of his environment. A period of decompression is advised before introduction or exposure to new and unfamiliar situations. Force-free, reward based training is advised.

03/04/2017 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION

Tulsa was surrendered as a stray so his past behavior around dogs is unknown. 3/4: When greeting a novel female dog, Tulsa immediately becomes stiff and begins barking at the other dog. 03/03/17 Hx - Stray, Male, 4 years old. No MIC on Intake. Subjective - BAR-H. Observed Behavior - Approachable did not resent handling, req muzzle. Evidence of Cruelty seen - None. Evidence of Trauma seen - None. Objective BCS 3/5 EENT: Eyes clear, ears clean, no nasal discharge noted. Oral Exam: NAD H/L: NSR, NMA, CRT < 2, Lungs clear, eupnic ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated. U/G: Entire MSI: Ambulatory x 4, significant crepitus bilat hips and stifles suspect bilat patellar lux. INTG: skin free of parasites, no masses noted, lichenified lesions T dorsal midline; healing. CNS: mentation appropriate; no signs of neurologic abnormalities. Rectal: Not performed. Assessment - P appears to be in good health, arthritic at hind limbs, dermatitis healing. Plan - Intake.
