About samosa: TO BE KILLED - 5/4/2019 SAMOSA was adopted and then returned in 4 days. And there is not a thing wrong with Samosa. He is so friendly, kissy, sweet and wonderful. He just needed a new family with a clue about decompression, slow intros when it comes to his new family members and routine. No scary, sudden surprises! You don't throw them into the mix, you don't overwhelm them, you don't think "Yippee, we saved him" and expect that it's clear sailing from there. Samosa is just a baby. Their new home may have been wonderful, but to him it was a new scary place he needed to navigate. So back to the shelter he went, and that breaks our heart, because he's such a good boy. He needs stability, support, a kind voice, and some downtime to get by his ordeal and then be his usual, sweet, friendly and affectionate self. So let?s not let him languish there and end up dead on Thursday due to human error and ignorance. Foster or adopt this sweetheart now. Message our page or email us at MustLoveDogsNYC@gmail.com for assistance. MY VIDEOS: Mercutio and Samosa in Playgroup https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ET_iVEXxa2I Samosa and Milo in Playgroup https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RgEJu3j5tuw SAMOSA, ID# 60110, 1 yr old, 33.2 lbs, Neutered Male Brooklyn ACC, Medium Mixed Breed, Tan / White I came to the shelter as an Adoption Return 04/23/19 Owner Surrender Reason: returned to the center due to behavior concerns Shelter Assessment Rating: NEW HOPE ONLY No children (under 13) Medical Behavior Rating: 1. GREEN AT RISK NOTE: While Samosa has displayed social behavior in the care center, she has escalated to biting in a new home environment when someone walked into the room. Due to this bite incident as well as her potential for fear-based aggression, we feel she may be best set up to succeed if placed with an experienced rescue partner. Samosa was also diagnosed with CIRDC and will have to stay away from other dogs for 14 days. OWNER SURRENDER NOTES - BASIC INFORMATION: Samosa is a one year old tan and white female dog that was returned to the center due to behavior concerns. The adopter had her for the past four days. She previously lived with 2 adults. Samosa is friendly and outgoing around strangers. She didn't live with children, other dogs or cats. Samosa is not bothered if food, toys or objects are taken away from her. Samos has no bite history with an animal, but snapped at the adopter's roommate once while he was coming into her room unannounced. Samosa is housetrained and her previous owner describes her energy level as high. Other Notes: She is not bothered when she is held nor when she is removed from the furniture. The adopter didn't bathed nor brushed her therefore his behavior is unknown. For a New Family to Know: She was described as friendly, affectionate and playful. She likes to follow people around and to be in the same room. She was kept indoors only and was fed dry and wet food. Samosa is house-trained and goes on grass and cement. She has never been crated. Samosa listens to sit and come. She is used to brisks walks on leash for exercise. INTAKE NOTES ? DATE OF INTAKE, 04-23-2019: Samosa had a loose body throughout the process. He allowed to be scanned, collared and enjoyed to be petted. He kept jumping upon the counselor's lap for attention. Samosa walked around the room and was taking treats gently. Samosa scanned positive for a microchip. PLAYGROUP NOTES - DOG TO DOG SUMMARIES: According to Samosa's recent adopter, Samosa did not socialize with other dogs while in their care. 4/24: Samosa returned to group in BACC. She greeted the novel male with her teeth bared and growled before jumping on the gate while hard barking. The gate was not opened and an off-leash interaction was not conducted. 4/25: Samosa was muzzled for today's interaction with a novel male. She was initially fixated on the muzzle and attempted to remove it. Handlers walked Samosa over to the gate for her to greet the male. She greets him with a forward body and high tail. The gate is opened with her leash held as well as the male due to his inexperience. Samosa offers the male a play bow and spins. Due to her play solicitations, the muzzle is removed and her leash dropped. She engages in bouts of bouncy play with the male. INTAKE BEHAVIOR - Date of intake: 23-Apr-2019 Summary: Wagging, allowed all handling MEDICAL BEHAVIOR - Date of initial: 24-Apr-2019 Summary: Loose bodied, allowed all handling ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Samosa so we cannot be certain of her behavior in a home environment. However, she is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep her engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct her energy and enthusiasm. BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: New Hope Only Behavior Asilomar TM - Treatable-Manageable Recommendations: No children (under 13), Place with a New Hope partner Recommendations comments: No children (under 13): Due to the fearful behavior Samosa has displayed in her previous home environment, we feel she would be best set up to succeed in an adult only home environment. Place with a New Hope partner: While Samosa has displayed social behavior in the care center, she has escalated to biting in a new home environment when someone walked into the room. Due to this bite incident as well her potential for fear based aggression, we feel she may be best set up to succeed if placed with an experienced rescue partner. Force-free, reward based training only is advised as well as guidance from a professional trainer or behaviorist.
