About clyde: Animal ID 44136219 Species Dog Breed Terrier, American Pit Bull/Mix Age 3 years 5 days Gender Male Size Medium Color Tan/White Declawed No Housetrained Unknown Site Animal Care & Control Team of Philadelphia Location Kennels Intake Date 4/9/2020 ARN TS 4/13, 5:30pm! Stage Timestamped **one interested foster** Clyde A44136219 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to both behavioral and medical concerns. Clyde must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER by 5:30pm, MONDAY, APRIL 13th. Should Clyde's behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Clyde urgently needs to leave the shelter due to a combination of significant medical issues and concerning behavior issues noted while in the shelter environment. Clyde has a shifting lameness in both hind legs with swelling of the distal left hind leg, as well as healing abrasions on all four legs. Clyde sustained some form of trauma and requires further diagnostics (radiographs, sedated orthopedic examination) to determine extent of injuries and indicated treatment. Unfortunately, Clyde is additionally displaying concerning behavior, such as growling and snapping at the leash, which has prevented staff from safely handling him for necessary intake examinations and subsequent veterinary exams. Clyde - A44136219 Intake Type: 4/9 Seized stray Medical Observation: (4/10) Vet Check - Patient's fearful behavior prevented examination today. Patient has a shifting lameness in both hind legs with swelling of the distal left hind leg, as well as healing abrasions on all four legs. Patient has sustained some form of trauma and requires further diagnostics (radiographs, sedated orthopedic examination) to determine extent of injuries and indicated treatment. (4/10) PE: Unable to check in due to behavior. Dog is trembling in kennel and growling, with some small lip curls. Earlier in the morning, I was able to feed the dog treats through the kennel, which the dog took gently. However, once the slip leash touched the dog, he snapped up, biting the leash and barking. Behavior Observation: (4/13) Per Staff -- ACA was able to remove from kennel to attempt check in but behavior was unsafe (charged at ACA) and, while snapping, dog ripped leash. ACA placed back in kennel but could not remove leash due to Clyde's snapping at leash and lunging at handler. Dog is also not eating medication meatballs nor when medication is offered in cheese, Fresh Pet or lunch meat. (4/10) Behavior -- Initially trembling when approached and kept eyes adverted. Dropped a treat near paws and then ended first interaction. Returned a few moments later to find treat had been eaten, dog was not trembling but visibly nervous and extremely tense - again avoidant of eye contact. Dropped another treat and ended interaction. Visited dog for a third time, and dog was less tense, although still visibly uncomfortable. Able to sit next to kennel and begin feeding treats through bars, which were taken very gently. After some time, stood up, got a blanket and brought back to the kennel. Allowed dog to sniff it through the bars, then slowly opened the kennel door and dropped blanket in. Dog stood up, avoidant, but still interested in treats - took a couple and the interaction was ended. During walk through some time later, found that dog had switched from floor to blanket. Offered a treat and ended interaction. (4/10) Per vet staff -- Patient is trembling, whale eyeing, low growling and lip curling when kennel is approached. Patient will move to other side of guillotine when attempting to open kennel door. When attempting to leash, patient began snapping at leash.
