About mico: MICO ACCT-A-117846 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to behavioral and medical concerns. Mico must have confirmed placement with an ADOPTER, or RESCUE PARTNER by Sunday, August 22nd at 10:00 a.m. Should Mico's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Mico is a young adult male mixed breed dog that was abandoned at ACCT. While he has been in our care, he has been largely friendly and easy to handle with the exception of returning to his kennel. Unfortunately, he has started to snap at staff and volunteers while being returned to his kennel. We believe this is a shelter-specific behavior and should improve when he is able to get regular exercise and live in a home environment. Mico is also dog-selective and has shown fixation and reactivity towards other dogs while in our care. Mico is an exuberant pup, and recently he was noted to be limping a bit on his right hind leg. An examination suggests a tear or rupture to the cruciate ligament-this might be acute, or it might be the inflammation of a chronic injury. Mico should have radiographs to rule out any other cause of lameness. In a dog of his size, surgical repair of the ligament is ideal, but it is possible that he may be able to heal with rest and medications. Mico urgently needs to leave the shelter with someone that is able to provide him with ample decompression time, structure and appropriate socialization, and the medical care necessary to heal from his injury. Some notes from Mico's fan club: "Mico appeared to be house trained and pulls on the leash. Once in the yard he did get a little jumpy and mouthy with me at first but out of play - and then showed me he is ACCT's best fetcher! He's a big boy but he can move - he loves to run around the yard chasing toys but really just to run! He was super happy to be outside. When dogs passed the fence he did become barky and frustrated but when entering the building and passing dogs in the surgery kennels he paid no mind at all. I had no trouble leashing him or returning to kennel. "He also seeks out attention and is not all muscle and strength, but also has a cuddly and affectionate side to him. He would thrive in a home with a yard as an only dog and would do best with an adult family! Possible placement, interested parties, and other "TBD" statuses are not considered confirmed and do not indicate an animal is no longer urgent. ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia. We are open for adoptions 7 days a week. Please visit www.acctphilly.org/adopt for details.
