About kendo: Kendo ACCT-A-158854 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Kendo must have confirmed placement with an ADOPTER, FOSTER, or RESCUE PARTNER by FRIDAY, APRIL 12TH at 10AM. Should Kendo's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Due to being significantly overcapacity with dogs and cats and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted. If you are interested in an animal please contact ACCT Philly immediately. Due to limited space, timestamps may also be proceeded with early so it is imperative to let us know if you are considering adopting or tagging a dog or cat. Kendo is a handsome boy who found his way to our shelter as a stray, but don't let his rough start fool you - he's a sweet and gentle soul just waiting for the right folks to give him the love he deserves. It may take Kendo a little time to warm up, but once he trusts you, he's all in. He's like a flower blossoming in the sun - the more time you spend with him, the more he opens up, revealing his loving and loyal nature. He loves to give hugs and enjoys belly crawling on the carpet to try to sneakily get a belly rub. He spent some time in boarding due to lack of shelter space, and staff there said he was one of their favorites because of his sweet nature! On walks, Kendo is a strong boy, but he walks with confidence and ease, showcasing his potential for adventure and exploration. And when it comes to manners, Kendo seems to be already house trained! Kendo likes to get to know new people at his own pace, so an adult-only home is recommended to ensure he has ample space and time to adjust to his new family and home. If you're looking for a faithful companion who will be by your side through thick and thin, Kendo is your guy. Come meet him today and let him steal your heart with his irresistible charm! Kendo is eligible for foster care, rescue placement, and adoption. Be sure to check out Kendo in action in the videos below, and read through his behavioral notes for more information! 4/7/24 per volunteer: Easy walk. Gentle boy. Takes treats nicely and loved to be scratched. 3/10/24 per volunteer: When I passed by Kendo's kennel this morning, he was whimpering and pacing. He was easy to leash and take out of his kennel. He certainly seemed eager to get outside. Once outside, Kendo immediately went to the bathroom. He ignored a couple of other dogs that we walked past. Kendo was focused on sniffing everything in his environment and going to the bathroom. He's a strong boy and pulled hard for the first 10-15 minutes of our walk. He eased up after having a bowel movement and started to slow his pace and walk closer to me. He's more social this week than when I walked him last Sunday. After our long walk, Kendo approached me for pets. He would stay still for brief moments for me to scratch his back, maybe 20-30 seconds at a time. Then, Kendo would become distracted by a sound and start pulling on the leash and sniffing around. Kendo did not want to return to the kennel and resisted going back in. I had the help of another volunteer to help carry him back in. I think Kendo will continue to open up and display his friendly personality with more attention and more time outside to relieve himself. 3/10/24 per volunteer: Very housetrained. Sweet boy, will leash bite when returning to the kennel. Volunteers and staff noted between 3/5 and 3/9 that Kendo was reluctant to return to his kennel, and they had to either toss treats inside to get him to return, or carry him into his kennel. They noted that cheese is one of his favorite snacks! 3/3/24 per volunteer: VERY housetrained! Seemed tense but became more relaxed as we walked. Took treats gently. Mostly ignored me but allowed handling. 3/2/24 per staff: Took kendo out after my shift - he was very chill and quiet, might be housebroken, he peed a few times, walked nicely then just explored the yard, no issues leashing him. He came over at one point and gave me some sniffs then jumped up with his paws in my lap and wanted some pets. 3/2/24 per staff: Low growling while lying down on his kennel bed this AM. 3/1/24 per Animal Protection Officers: Dog appeared sweet but shy and slow to warm up dog allowed all forms of handling, placed in truck without muzzle, and removed chain collar without muzzle. Dog appears to have scrapes on ears, as well as a cough.
