About cashmere: Cashmere ACCT-A-155891 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to behavioral concerns. Cashmere must have confirmed placement with an ADOPTER or RESCUE PARTNER by Monday, April 22nd by 10:00 am. Should Cashmere's medical or behavioral status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Due to being significantly overcapacity with animals and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted. If you are interested in an animal please contact ACCT Philly immediately. Due to limited space, timestamps may also be proceeded with early so it is imperative to let us know if you are considering adopting or tagging an animal. Cashmere is a 4-year-old female who came in as a stray, for the second time this year, on 3/26. She was previously reclaimed in January. The finder who brought her in on 3/26 stated that her owner kept putting her out, that they took Cashmere back to her home, but the owner said they didn't want her. Cashmere has experienced heightened levels of fear, anxiety, and stress during her stay. During an intake exam on 3/26, staff was unable to thoroughly check her teeth and abdomen due to her fearful behavior. From what they could observe, Cashmere appeared to be in good general health. Cashmere has slowly gained confidence during her shelter stay, but still requires a slow introduction to new people and situations. When Cashmere first arrived she would not allow much handling and would tense up, lift her lip, or react at her handle, but now Cashmere leans into pets with those she is comfortable with. Cashmere even is comfortable enough to flop over for belly rubs with her favorite staff members and is reported to have the cutest zoomies! Cashmere has been in our isolation space the last couple weeks due to being sick and while in isolation she has been a pleasure for staff to take out on walks, but unfortunately has increased in reactivity to exams and medical handling. On 4/10 the vet tried to examine Cashmere to see if she could leave our isolation space. Unfortunately Cashmere was very reactive to any handling during this, tried to bite the vet unprovoked, and was unable to be safely examined. Cashmere is stressed in the shelter and her tolerance level for needed examinations is decreasing. She has still done well outside of her kennel on walks and we know that she is a very sweet girl, but shelter life is starting to cause her to decline. Due to this, Cashmere urgently needs to leave with a rescue partner or adopter who can work with her on her fearful behavior and help her gain confidence to be the best girl we know she can be. NEW! Per staff on 4/19: Took Cashmere for a walk, out to the ISO play yard. Great on leash, barrels into you for affection: whenever I would crouch or sit, she wanted to be in my lap, getting belly rubs, and licking my face. She appeared dog-social around the others dogs in nearby play yards, bounding back and forth along the fence with mid-to-high tail wags, ears up, posture not tense. At one point she was more interested in snacking on the grasses growing along the play yard fence than the other dog. When returning to kennel, besides some understandable hesitation to go back in (pulling, laying down in protest), she allowed me to pick her up and place her in her kennel. NEW! Per staff on 4/18: Took Cashmere for a walk. Easy to leash, slight puller, but generally very well behaved on leash. While I was sitting on a bench, she would either jump up herself and get pets, or just place her front paws in my lap and lick my face. Such a joyful, chunky, happy dog. Per staff 4/12: Aca had Cashmere out for daily walks and said there were no issues going in or out of the kennel. Walked well but did pull. Said dog was a pleasure to walk Per staff 4/10: Unable to safely be PCR tested to leave iso. A nurse held Cashmere on leash and when I approached Cashmere would give stiff and hard eye contact. We tried to muzzle her for safety but she flipped out. I dropped the muzzle to let her calm down. The vert was a few feet away facing sideways. Cashmere got the muzzle off and then stood stiff beside us and then tried to lunge and bite the vet with minimal warnings. Per staff on 3/28, Cashmere was an eager sniffer on a walk and in the eval room. She wasn't super keen on touch, but happy to explore and do her own thing. No issues on leash besides some hesitation to go back in; but she hopped in after I stepped up into the kennel before her. Per staff on 3/29: " No problems leashing Cashmere for a brief outing to the play yard and eval room. She still pulled a bit on leash, eagerly rushing up to and investigating doorways, but less so than before. In the yard, she enjoyed sniffing around. After about 5-10 minutes, she pooped, then burst into zoomies and seemed to notably relax - facial expression looser, panting and smiling, and she plopped down next to me for pets and offered kisses. She sometimes does an initially concerning / off-putting lip scrunch when getting pets and licking, but she showed no reactivity, defensiveness, or corrective behavior. It seems like a goofy quirk. (I kept the interactions on her terms, however, and didn't push her boundaries.) In the eval room she continued sniffing about. She rediscovered tennis balls as well, which immediately got her romping around and playing. (Only real tennis balls, though. She was confused by the rubber balls.) No issues returning to kennel. I could hear her whining and pleading moments after I was out of sight. Video: NEW! ;) https://youtube.com/shorts/tZNdUceOD1E?feature=shared NEW!
