About kent: Kent ACCT-A-216488 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Kent must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or ADOPTER by THURSDAY, APRIL 24TH at 10AM. Should Kent's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Kent was brought to the shelter after being found as a stray on March 31st. Kent was initially rescue only due to being reactive and stressed during intake and in kennel, but he has made steady behavioral progress. He?s blossomed into a playful, treat-loving goofball with lots of energy and potential. Staff and volunteers have consistently seen improvement in his sociability, comfort level, and ability to be handled. Kent has shown he enjoys toys, knows "sit," takes treats gently, and has even started to shine when meeting other dogs?displaying enthusiastic, bouncy play with Midnight Moe. Kent is looking for an adult-only home with an experienced handler ready to continue supporting his growth and helping him adjust in a home environment. Due to his length of stay, Kent is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner or adopter. Per staff 4/14: Had my assistant take him out, she approached the kennel and he had ears back, took treats gently, soft eyes. Slightly hard to leash due to jumping a lot. Pulled on the walk. Social and affiliative to the handler, ears back, middle tail wagging, panting with tongue hanging out loosely. Dog meet with Midnight Moe. Kent was smitten! Ears back, tail middle wagging, lots of hoppy & choppy movements to get him to play and interact. Per staff 4/14: Due to behavioral improvement moved from experienced blue to blue. If he continues to improve can consider moving to gold. Per staff 4/13: Very good on walk and on leash. Per staff 4/12: Changing to available due to improvement in behavior. Per staff 4/5: Approached the kennel and he was standing with soft eyes, ears back, tail low and wagging, taking treat gently. I had my assistant (male) approach and it was the same. Easy to leash, pulled to get outside and went potty immediately. Took treats gently and consistent from me and my assistant, I handed him off to my assistant to walk him and he engaged with him in a friendly social and playful manner. I was able to touch him all over his body which solicited jumpy/mouthy behavior, and also pounces off of me with his front paws. He was playful with toys and I could pet him while he played, he would get very wiggly and get zoomies with ears back, soft panting, and tail middle wagging. He met Chubby through the fence and was vocalizing, bouncing back and forth, tail middle-high wagging slightly stiffly with ears perks forward and piloerection. As chubby walked away he vocalized more. I sat down and he remained with his paws on the ground and had neutral body language when I pet his head and touched his face and ears. Walking past people going outside and coming back inside he ignored most of them, and pulled towards one female with ears back, middle tail wagging. He was easy to return to kennel and my assistant was able to reach his hand in the kennel ad around his neck to remove the leash. Experienced blue. Per staff 4/5: PT came up to me in kennel with soft eyes and took treats gentle. Was sitting patiently to get leashed and had no reactivity towards any dog in kennel. Easy to put back in kennel. Improved so much. A very sweet boy !!!! Per staff 4/4: When approached kennel, came to the front, tense and hard barking. Put hand to bar and he started snapping. Per volunteer 4/2: Approached the kennel and had wide eyes, and growled as I looked at him. I offered treats and showed him the leash and he starting to low wag his tail, put his ears back and and jumped on the kennel gate. Allowed me to leash easily and pulled to get outside with middle tail wagging and ears back. Outside he got the zoomies so we went in a pen. I was able to pet him on his sides and back and he was very playful with toys, and allowed me to pet his back while he had a toy. He took treats gently and consistently and knows sit and can catch treats in mid air. Coming back inside he met a female volunteer and also had a male and female customer walk by him and he remained with neutral body language with a heavy pant and red eyes, indicating stress. In the volunteer office he was sniffing around the room and showed signs of mild fear to the fake dog and the bin of poop bags. He would turn to the handler for reassurance and jumped on me a few times, likely indicating he wanted to exit. He was easy to turn to kennel and remove the leash. Per staff 3/31: Dog seems fine with finder but was barking and a little reactive to other people passing by. He did let me put a water bucket in front of him without issue. Per staff 3/31: Finder stated dog was aggressive at approach but warmed up once she bought treats. Stated he was ok with her and her child just really hyper. During intake he was heavily panting and eyes were red he seemed extremely stressed out. He was also dog reactive with another dog in intake lobby. Was stiff when strangers were near and is hard barking at everyone MEDICAL: On 4/7, Kent was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection (URI) or "doggy cold" and started on medication. He tested positive for pneumovirus and retested negative on 4/15. On 4/5, Kent received his vaccines. A full exam was not done, but his eyes and nose were clear and he was coughing. On 4/2, Kent was prescribed a course of gabapentin to help him adjust to the shelter. Due to being significantly overcapacity with dogs and cats and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted.
