Smokey is a 10 month old puppy with lots of spirit.

The adoption procedure is as follows: Upon your visit to the shelter and after meeting your prospective new pet, you will then pay the adoption fee. The adoption fee is $75-95 depending on the age and sex of the dog and is slightly less for cats. This adoption fee covers the new owner's portion of the spay or neuter, a pain injection fee, and a current rabies vaccine (pending the pet is old enough). We do not have a fee for the animal itself, the money you pay is for the vetting. The surgery is scheduled, a shelter employee takes the pet to the appointment, then the new owner picks the pet up from the veterinary hospital upon completion of the surgery. The Petersburg Shelter will adopt to all residents of the state of Virginia, and if your application is approved, to out-of-state adopters as well.
