A volunteer writes: It was love at first sight for me. Quiet, calm, and beautiful Lexi and I enjoyed our walk to the park, her leash manners are lovely and of course going potty was her first priority once outside. Surrendered by her family as they moved where she isn't welcome, we're told she lived with a 10 year old and enjoyed visits from 3 and 4 year olds, sniffing the younger kids and playing with the older one. She can be shy around strangers but warms up quickly and then likes to kiss them, she loves toys, and has played with dogs in the dog park. Lexi doesn't guard her things with the exception of a bone which I guess is her #1 prize -so, don't touch her bone if you give her one :). We're also told she's afraid of fireworks and will try to hide as she had a bad experience with neighborhood children setting them off. Lexi isn't a fan of baths, likes to sleep with her person and is described as affectionate, playful and shy.
The more time I spent with Lexi the more I liked her, and watching her sashay down the street with her lovely leash manners is a joy. She has the cutest little tush! Lexi and I sat quietly together watching the activities in the park, and when it was time to go back in her kennel she hopped in with no fuss. A proven family dog without a family to love at the moment, Lexi is hoping you'll stop by to meet her today. I hope you will too, as I promised her we'll find her a new family to cherish. 08/13/16 20:02 Basic Info Lexi was brought to the ACC because her previous owner's landlord would not allow dogs. Lexi has allergies/a rash on her neck and paws. Socialization Lexi is shy around strangers at first, but will come up to them after a few minutes and try to lick their face. She has lived with a 10 year old and had frequent visits from 3 and 4 year olds. With these children she is usually gentle. She likes to sniff the younger children and play with the older ones. Owner described her as protective of these children. With adults, she is an exhuberant player. She loves toys. She has played with other dogs at the dog park and is a little rough with them, but enjoys playing with them. She has never been around cats but owner hypotheses that she would mostly leave them alone.
Behavior Lexi is completely potty trained and does not have accidents. If food is left out when she is alone, she will eat it. She hides and shakes during fireworks when she was home alone one day neighbor children kept setting off fireworks for fun because they could hear her crying and owner says she has been very afraid of fireworks since that day. She is used to going to the bathroom in the yard without a leash and may have problems going to the bathroom on a leash. She will allow people to take away food and toys, but will growl if you take away a bone and potentially snap at you. She will struggle and attempt to run if you restrain her or give her a bath.
For a New Family to Know Lexi is affectionate, playful, and shy. She has a medium activity level and likes to follow her owners around. She likes to sleep on the bed. At the ACC Lexi was friendly and affectionate while her owners were here, but began to cry as soon as they left. The rest of the time she attempted to go out the door they had left through. Her tail was between her legs and she was whining.
