A volunteer writes: I was told about a gorgeous, shy and scared dog?a dog who wanted to be friends but was so overwhelmed by no longer being with his family that he was having a hard time. I would, wouldn?t you? So, Diesel became my mission, my mission to help him relax, make friends and get as comfortable as he possibly could in this strange new environment. He greeted me softly from his kennel, allowed me to leash him and out we went. We walked, we talked, he went potty, we walked and talked some more and when I settled on a park bench he settled with me. I had tethered him for a few minutes so I could photograph another dog and Diesel waited patiently watching my interaction. Maybe he figured since the other dog seemed to like me, he should to? Inch by inch, moment by moment Diesel made progress, and fast forward a little more time and I had a tail wagging, kissy face, wiggly boy in my lap!! What we?re told about Diesel is: he lived well with a 12 yo boy and two older male Chihuahuas, is housetrained, well behaved when left home alone, friendly, affectionate and playful, doesn?t guard his things, knows several commands and his favorite game is fetch. He seems protective of his person, and when his former owner was asked what his favorite thing about Diesel is, his response was: ?everything he?s like my son?. So, let?s find Diesel a new person or family to love and take care of. I fulfilled my mission as best I could?.his future is now up to you.

Tag: 2. Dog follows on leash slowly, tail tucked, a bit fearful, unresponsive to each touch

Squeeze 1 / 2: 2. Jumps up lightly/affectionately during positioning. Once positioned, pulls back paw on both attempts.

Toy: 1. Minimal interest in Toy, dog sniffs, then turns away.

Summary: Selective with who he warms up to, some staff very affectionate, others aloof or more fearful. Recommend Experienced adult home only, slow approach/slow introduction.

PLAYGROUP: 09/21/16

Diesel?s previous owner does not cite history around dogs, so previous behavior around them is unknown. When introduced off leash to another dog in the care center, Diesel is fearful and crouches when approached. He offers a small lip curl and begins to urinate. The behavior team feels that Diesel would be most comfortable as the only resident dog in a new home, before following up on his behavior around them outside the care center environment
