A volunteer writes: I love the seniors. The calm, the acceptance, the gentle spirit of a dog who has experienced much, and has learned that life is best served with quiet and good will. Papichulo is the ambassador of that philosophy, quiet in his kennel, happy to step out for a chance to go potty and a walk to enjoy the cool spring afternoon. Loosely translated, Papichulo means cool daddy, hot stuff, and yes, thats our Papichulo. His leash manners are lovely, and although his eyes are a bit cloudy he doesn?t miss a thing, from the squirrels in the park, to kids playing ball, to other dogs passing by. Not a fan of being tethered for photos, I snap quickly so as not to stress him, and then cuddle him close for a hug which he accepts graciously. Papichulo did not like either of my treats, turning up his nose in a polite no, thank you. At times seeming a bit confused as to exactly what has changed in his life to bring him to this new place, hes nonetheless gentle and determined to make the best of it. He won my heart with his dignity, gentle manner and brave acceptance of things he cannot change. But, we can change it for him. Meet him today and I guarantee you will want to take him home for his golden years. He deserves it and you deserve him.

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR:
During his initial medical exam, Papichulo was tense and had a tucked tail but allowed handling.
ENERGY LEVEL:
We have no history on Papichulo so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. In the care center, he displays a medium level of activity.
RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with behaviors outlined below)
Potential challenges:
Fearful: Papichulo is a bit fearful at the care center. It is important to always go slow and give Papichulo the option to walk away from any social interaction. Papichulo should never be forced to approach anything that he is uncomfortable with or to submit to petting or handling. It should always be Papichulos choice to approach a new person or thing. Papichulo would do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment and should be given time to acclimate to his new surroundings.
