About tonka: Tonka ACCT-A-113962 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to behavioral concerns. Tonka must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER by Sunday, May 22nd by 10:00am. Should Tonka's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Meet Tonka! Tonka is a bulldog mix who came to ACCT as a stray on 5/17 as a stray. The finder reported that he was friendly, but was easily excitable and would try to mount him. Since being in our care Tonka has been high energy and lacks impulse control. He is dog reactive in the kennels and will fixates on other dogs, which can be hard to redirect at times. While out with staff Tonka was constantly jumping up towards the handler and would freeze up when being pet at times. He appeared over aroused, but also was conflicted with handling. Tonka was interested in toys and would run around with it in his mouth, eager to play. When a volunteer had Tonka out they said, "We got to the covered run then and he was alright at first. I sat down and let him do his thing. After 5-10 minutes I engaged with him and he came over and let me pet him. I had been sitting on the wood platform at his level and he began to get over aroused and trying to hump me. I stood up and he stopped the attempt of mounting and courting me lol. I let him do his thing between interacting, he was good with dogs passing (just watched loose but interested more positive then negative). He was interested in a ball I threw later chased it and came back (without ball where I was still crouched). He tried to hump my leg, growling, shook him off/ pushed away to get onto the platform to stand. He immediately disengaged but was very uncomfortable. I let him calm a bit before I took him in. Due to the behaviors noted Tonka will only be available to a rescue partner who can further evaluate him and work with him prior to placing him in a home. Confirmed placement is considered an actual rescue pull. Possible placement, interested parties, and other "TBD" statuses are not considered confirmed and do not indicate an animal is no longer urgent. ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia. We are open for adoptions 7 days a week. Please visit www.acctphilly.org/adopt for details.
