💜 𝗩𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀: I'm not convinced Hamilton is 3 years old because he appears to have been a teen when my contact first began feeding him on the street in January of this year. I named him Hamilton after Lewis Hamilton, the famous F1 driver because my contact worked at a local go cart raceway. Although, he was pretty malnourished when she first saw him so who knows. His teeth look pretty young adult to me! I feel like maybe he is around a year. Hamilton came for lunch every day like clockwork but my contact and her coworkers were never able to get close enough to catch him. I heard about him recently and once he appeared, he went in my trap almost instantly. Hamilton didn't always have a busted leg, but he wasn't street smart and we think ended up being clipped by a car. He lived in a part of Houston where I saw 12 different loose dogs within a small cluster of streets. It was rumored that he was owned, so maybe someone kept him on prevention, but yet didn't keep him contained nor safe from the street. His leg is busted in multiple places so I'm sure he's been in pain for some time! Once trapped he never growled at me nor made a peep. I could tell he was going to be a sweet boy! When I came to visit him at the shelter he was tucked in the back and accepted pets without a noise. I was able to leash him easily and although he didn't want to immediately get up he did end up walking well on a leash and didn't trash or try and escape like many scared dogs do! I did end up carrying him outside (he's a petite guy) due to time and he had no issue with me picking him up. The shelter has him on good meds for the pain and he actually put pressure on his leg. Also, it appears that it's nothing an easy amputation can't fix. Maybe this will help him be as fast as his namesake!Once we were outside he was timid at first but once he figured out I had good snacks he took them gently from my hand. He didn't explore the run much and didn't go potty but he figured out real quick where my snackies were hiding and he shoved his head in the bag to steal some. Little stinker! Hamilton is timid, but he walked on a leash without issue, let me carry him, let me dress him up in silly hats club, give him lots of pets, he ate treats from my hand, all without issue! He did great! These are all things that outgoing dogs do too so I hope that means it won't take long for Hamilton to decompress and socialize! When it was time to go back inside he walked more on the leash. Hamilton is a shy sweetie! I also think he's got some shepherd in him since he has great ears!
