This 4-year-old sweetheart is looking for a family that will appreciate his big personality, goofy charm, and eagerness to be part of the action. Rook absolutely loves people. Volunteers consistently describe him as super friendly, sweet, and eager for affection. He has a habit of leaning his whole body into his favorite people for pets, rolling over for belly rubs, and even giving hugs whenever he gets the chance. He thrives on human interaction and is happiest when he's close to his people. He's also met multiple new people at the shelter and has greeted everyone with a friendly, social attitude.

This smart boy already knows several tricks, including sit, down, and roll over, and he's highly food motivated, making him a fantastic candidate for continued training. He takes treats gently and loves showing off his skills in exchange for a tasty reward. He also appears to be housebroken, walks nicely overall, and enjoys spending time exploring the yard or playing with toys. While he can get a little jumpy or puppy-like when he's excited, his enthusiasm is all part of his lovable personality.

Rook has shown interest in other dogs and has participated in dog introductions and playgroup while at the shelter. He enjoys greeting other dogs and is excited to meet them, but he can become a little overenthusiastic and would benefit from slow introductions and continued guidance to help him practice appropriate dog manners.

Like many shelter dogs, Rook has a few areas he's still working on. He can be a little head shy when first being leashed, although treats quickly help him feel more comfortable. He's also reluctant to return to his kennel after enjoying time outside'who can blame him?'and sometimes needs a few tasty treats to convince him it's time to head back in. His finder also noted that he could be destructive when left in the home, so he'll do best with a family committed to providing plenty of exercise, enrichment, and positive reinforcement training.

6/27 - medium energy, neutral towards other dogs and interested in them through fence. Calm and social in kennel, head shy (lassoed and used treats to clip their harness), walks well, seems housetrained, super friendly, allowed all handling, rolled over for belly rubs

6/27 - medium energy, very excited to see other dogs, sweet, knows sit, down and roll over for treats. A hugger - partly to be near treats and partly for human contact, sweet and strong

7/1 - medium energy, difficult to get back into kennel

Per staff 7/7/26: Kennel Presentation: At the front of the kennel with soft eyes, ears to the side and mid tail loosely wagging.

Leash Skills: easy to leash and came right out of the kennel. Mildly pulled on leash, however would turned and check in with me. He also would zig zag and rub his body against my legs as we were walking.

Sociability: leaned into all handling. Jumps up and pawed at me. Rolls onto his back and let me give him belly rubs. Continuously jumped up on me when not petting. Does know sit and takes treats gently.

Play: n/a

Dog Interaction: met Carter. Good greetings at the fence with soft eyes, mid tail loosely wagging and some excitement barking. On leashes he pulled towards Carter, forward greetings and then attempted to mount

Return to Kennel: went in and then pushed back out hard. Jumping up on me, clipped the leash and tossed a handful of treats in. Still tried to push back out but was able to slip leash off and close door.

Per staff 7/2/26: Meet Rook ACCT- A- 253653!

At 4 years old, Rook is the perfect blend of playful energy and couch-potato relaxation. This handsome 61 lbs boy found his way to ACCT Philly originally as a Stray on 06/22. Rook finder noted that they could not keep as he was destructive in the home. Rook would benefit a home that can provide him the training and patience he needs.

Personality & Quirks:

Volunteers describe Rook as an absolute sweetheart who is guaranteed to make you smile. He is quick to roll on his side and asks for Belly rubs. He is highly treat-motivated, which makes showing off his tricks (he already knows \"sit\"!) super fun and easy! He is eager to Please.

Playgroup 6/28: Good greetings at the fence, Not steerable, 0/5 with water and 1/5 with can. Tense body when greeting in the yard, high tail, hackles raised, ears rotating between forward and to the side. Putting his head over the other dogs neck, vocalized and staff used air horn and separated dogs.

Per volunteer 6/28: Rook is a very good boy who knows sit & down & gives belly when you tell him to roll over. He's a big hugger and a sturdy guy. He was accepting of the handling needed to clip his leash onto his harness, which was good because he's strong and the harness was usefull. He's definitely interested in other dogs but didn't meet any. Followed a piece of cheese into his kennel & let me unclip his leash no problem.

Per volunteer 6/27: was calmly at front of kennel when approached. Took treats calmly. When leash was in kennel, rook looked the other way ( a bit head shy) but still took treats calmly. Outside - opened up more. Loves people and getting pets - will lean whole body into you and roll over for bell rubs. A little mouthy in a playful way. Also would jump up with front paws for attention. Eager to please. Gentle with treats. Engaged with stuffy toys, but dropped on their own. Met multiple people and was friendly,interested in them.

Per finder 6/22/26: Rook's finder found him on the 21st and brought him to the shelter because he started tearing up household items. They described him as being very wild and all over the place.
