🩺 MEDICAL NOTES:
Penelope is LOW POSITIVE for heartworms.
She previously had a tail amputation with only about 1 inch remaining, but she has chewed the area until the wound is now open and bleeding. Even with an e-collar, she has continued trying to reach the wound.
BARC notes that surgical repair would be difficult and could risk fecal incontinence. Her treatment plan includes hydrotherapy for 10'15 minutes twice daily for 21 days.
Current medications include:
' Clavamox 437.5 mg twice daily x14 days
' Carprofen/Rimadyl 112.5 mg once daily x14 days
' Gabapentin 300 mg twice daily x14 days
' Trazodone 100 mg twice daily x14 days

🐾BEHAVIOR NOTES:
Penelope was initially described as 'very relaxed,' but her pain and kennel stress appear to be taking a toll.
Staff have seen her heavily panting, spinning and contorting herself trying to reach her injured tail.
These behaviors are occurring while she is dealing with an actively painful medical problem and significant shelter stress.
