Rice Cake is on the at-risk list due to behavior concerns. In the care center, Rice Cake has shown high arousal and intense fixation around treats, treat pouches, and toys. She has persistently jumped on handlers, bitten and torn treat pouches, hovered over toys with a tense body, and has been difficult to redirect. Most recently, she attempted to bite a handler's pant leg while being returned to kennel. Rice Cake is highly toy motivated and has shown the ability to engage trade between toys using a polite exchange game, and is social with staff but is struggling to acclimate. Medically, Rice Cake is apparently healthy.

Rice cake came into ACC as a stray; because of this, we do not know how she would be in a home environment. She was found in an abandoned building with 3 other dogs and 2 puppies. During her time in the care center she has been noted to fixate on toys and treat pouches, being difficult to redirect her attention away from them. She has been noted to fixate on a handler's treat pouch, then jump up and latch onto the treat pouch, treats do not redirect her, and the handler had to toss their entire treat pouch onto the floor. Rice cake has also been noted to engage in training with handlers. We recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based) and re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home.
