A Volunteer Wrote: I am told there are dogs out there who don?t hate being bathed because I see their videos on social media, but I have always been convinced they were photoshopped. Then I met Jolene, a dog so eager for affection that as a friend gave her a sponge bath, she leaned into her leg and closed her eyes, relishing the warmth of her new friends touch, water be damned. Jolene, who appears house trained, had been in her kennel for a while, and she bounced out so eager to engage, play, and have close snuggle time with the humans around her. Her walking log notes she is a friendly, happy dog, and that sums her up precisely and perfectly. We were stunned to see that the shelter estimates her to be 8 years old because theres nothing mature about her, other than her dearness with people. She has participated in playgroup with other dogs, and she has charmed us by participating in our own ad hoc human playgroup, one that involved snuggles, love, and kisses, for which she shows the utmost and heartbreaking gratitude. Jolene is a dear girl ready for any adventure, whether you be a landlubber or water lover, as long as love is involved.

Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, ears back, tail wagging

Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, unresponsive to each pass

Squeeze 1 / 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed or back.

Toy 3. Dog takes away, keeps a firm hold. Her body is a bit stiff.

Summary: Jolene may require positive behavior modification to address any potential guarding issues that may present themselves in a home environment. Jolene displayed no concern during handling portions of the assessment.

PLAYGROUP:

11/5: When off leash with a neutered male Jolene is tense. She briefly greets then, once solicited with running play, she will chase after the helper dog growling (as a correction, not offensive behaviors).

MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 11/4/2016

During her initial medical examination, Jolene readily allowed all handling.
