A volunteer writes: An imposing presence in his kennel, Kane is leashed and steps out carefully. Once outside, Kane peed enough to raise the Hudson River by 5 inches confirming that hes housetrained per his former owner. Kane is a pokey, stop and smell the roses walker on leash, happy to amble along enjoying the good scents along the way. Surrendered to our care as his owner is ill, we are told that he is shy at first but will warm up after a few minutes, is housetrained when walked regularly, is well behaved when left home alone, doesn?t guard his things other than his treats, enjoys balls and playing fetch, is crate trained and OK for up to 5 hours, knows sit, come, stay settle down and gimme 5. Kane is a bit unsettled without the home and family hes known all his life but is working hard to deal with it. He showed off his sit and his down, alternates between being gentle and grabby for treats, put his paw in my lap, and when he got comfortable with me got a bit silly and playful and his tail started to wag. Kane seems to not like his head touched, flinching away when attempted. Change is hard for all of us, but when you are older and used to a certain way of things, its that much harder. Kane is hoping that he gets a chance to show a new person or family that hes ready to learn and love again. Let?s give him that chance.

Socialization
Around strangers Kane is shy for a few minutes but if you try to make friends with him he will warm up after a few minutes. He has not been around kids, dogs or cats.

Behavior
He will not use the bathroom indoors as long as he has been walked 3 times daily, otherwise he will not hold his bowel movements. He does not destroy household items. Kane is not bothered by having his food touched or taken while eating or having his toys touched or takem. Kane will growl if you try to take away food treats, use caution. He is not bothered by being bathed or brushed. He will bark if someone approaches house or yard and barks if someone approaches owner and is sometimes protective.

For A New Family to Know:
Kane is friendly and shy and has a high level of energy at home. He likes to follow his owner around the house. He enjoys balls and playing fetch. He likes to play tug of war but use caution because he quickly escalates and becomes aggressive. He is kept indoors only and is mostly house trained but has accidents about once a week. When left alone at home he is well behaved and kept in a crate for a max or 5 hours. He has been crate trained since a puppy. He knows the commands sit, come, stay, settle down and gimme 5. He pulls very hard on the leash and is not walked without a leash unless the area is empty. He is fed only Martins Canine Formula dry food since he is puppy.

Intake
During intake Kane was slightly apprehensive of councilor and flinched when councilor scanned and does not like having hands above his head.
