We don?t understand why Nena?s parent couldn?t keep her after their divorce but it is cruel to think that despite how terrified and overwhelmed she was on intake, they ?still? walked away. They knew that she was incredibly shy with new people till she warmed up, and now she is surrounded by nothing but strangers. Our hearts hurt when these shy, sweet puppies who did nothing wrong suffer the injustice of being left behind and abandoned when they are at their most vulnerable. Poor Nena was tail tucked at her medical, shivering in fear, and she even peed on herself. This is not the life she expected to have, and all she wants is to go home to her family and sleep in their bed again with them, to be comforted and loved and safe. She was amazing with their child too, playing so gently with them and even protective of them. This poor girl desperately needs an experienced foster or adopter in an adult only home who can give her a chance. Will you be her hero? AT RISK MEMO: Nena has remained fearful at the care center and has allowed for only minimal handling; exhibiting distance increasing behaviors. Nena would be best suited for placement with a new hope partner that can provide the necessary behavior modification. Medically, Nena seems healthy.

OWNER SURRENDER NOTES ? BASIC INFORMATION: Nena is an appoxitmatly 1 year old, medium mixe breed, femae. She was brought in as an owner surrender. She lived with 2 adults and 1 child. Nena is said to fearful and unwlcoming towards strangers until she warms up, which can take some time. It is said that once she does warm up she is affectionate and playful. Nena previously lived with a child of the age 3. It is said that Nena was playful and protective of the child. It is said that when playing with the child Nena was gentle. Nena is said to be fearful and unwelcoming towards other dogs. When on leash she will pull hard towards them and growl or bark. Her behavior around cats is unknown. Nena has no known resource guarding issues. She has no known bite history. Nena is not housetrained and has a medium energy level. She has no known medical issues.

Other Notes:: It is unknown how Nena would react during storms and fireworks and when having her nails trimmed. It is said that she is non-reactive when food, treats, and toys are being taken away, when being taken off of furniture, being restrained, being disturbed while sleeping, being given a bath, and when being brushed. It is said that when unfamiliar people approach the house or family members she will growl, bark, lunge, and snap.

For a New Family to Know: Nena is described as shy and fearful until she gets to know people. Once she warms up, it is said that she is playful and affectionate. Her favorite activity is said to be playing fetch with her ball. When at home it is said that she will follow people around the house and is use to sleeping in the bed with family members. She was fed both dry and wet food twice a day. It is said that she is not housed trained and would have daily accidents in the house. When left alone in the house it is said that Nena will chew and destroy household items. She is said to be crate trained and to be okay in the crate for up to 8 hours. She is said to know the commands sit, stay, and give paw. For exercise she is used to slow walks on leash and is said to pull hard on leash. When off leash it is said that she will run away.

INTAKE NOTE ? DATE OF INTAKE, 4/21/2019: During intake Nena was very unwelcoming towards anyone who approached her. She was very dog and people reactive. She did not allow any handling from staff members. She would growl, hard bark lunge, and snap even though she had a muzzle on. Client had to collar and put her on a leash since she was so unwelcoming with staff.

Summary:: While at the care center, Nena has allowed minimal handling. When approached by unfamiliar people here at the care center, as well as in her previous home, Nena barks, growls, and snaps. When removed from her kennel, she avoids all interaction with people, pulling away from them and growling.
