SOPHIA aka AMELIA 43973987
Sophia aka Amelia is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to behavior concerns. Amelia must have confirmed placement with an adopter or rescue partner by SATURDAY, MARCH 21ST 5:30PM. Confirmed placement is considered a processed adoption or a confirmation of rescue pull by the indicated date and time.

Amelia urgently needs to leave the shelter because she has demonstrated discomfort in the shelter environment, at varying times exhibiting behaviors such as snarling, lip curling, and lunging, as well as successfully going on walks and interacting with volunteers. Amelia is available to a home with no other dogs and no small children. In her previous home, while she lived for a time with both, in the last year she has become less tolerant, having bitten another dog several times.

Confirmed placement is considered a processed adoption or a confirmation of rescue pull by the indicated date and time. Possible placement, interested parties, and other TBD statuses are not considered confirmed and do not indicate an animal is no longer urgent.

Behavior Observation:

(3/17) Volunteer - Sophia greeted me at the front of her kennel with 4 paws on the floor. Her body language was loose, with a soft face. She was easy to leash and left the kennel with no issue. She walked easily through the kennels when leaving and returning. Dog was easy to walk with no pulling. We walked a few loops around the parking lot and then went to the small run. We walked on Hunting Park Avenue to access run. No issue with sound of traffic/noise. Dog was let loose in the run. She solicited attention nicely, choosing to sit by her handler. She allowed chin scratches, head pets, and back pets. She ignored two different types of toys and was uninterested in Pupperoni. She left the run with no issue and returned to the back door of shelter. Another dog got loose from its handler at the back door and ran right to Sofia. Sofia allowed the dog to sniff while her handler leashed the pup. Sofia returned to kennel with no challenges. I would have evaluated Sophia as a gold simply due to size. She's a sweetheart who has really blossomed over the past week.
