About dexter: Intake Info: Dexter is a handsome 4 year old boy who was found as a stray on the beach in Delray Beach on 4/22. He has a chip but sadly it?s not registered with any company and so no owner info can be found. Medical: Recently recovered from CIRD, he still has some mild symptoms. No parasites seen on fecal exam and he?s parvo negative. Bright and alert, he?s a sweet boy with lots of energy and he can become overstimulated. He?s vaccinated and heartworm negative. Behaviors Observed: He had a neutral gate greeting and is streerable. He enjoyed light socialization with other dogs (male and female). However, prior to being taken to the yard, Dexter snapped at the gate when staff put his hand up to it. Another staff member approached Dexter with more intense body language and Dexter began to tap his paws on the bed and wiggle his body. When being taken out of the kennel, he aggressed on the dog next door through the barrier. Staff Notes: He?s very cuddly but doesn?t like hands near his mouth. Dislikes being muzzle wrapped and growled then snapped at staff?s hand during his vet exam. Has showed signs of FAS (fear, anxiety and stress) ? pacing, jumping, panting ? and has shown barrier reactivity to dogs as they walk past his kennel (will bare teeth and lunge) and will redirect on staff. Volunteer Notes: Eager to come out to the yard. Super friendly. Appears housebroken. Request to Rescues: Young Dexter has an unknown history and was found roaming the beach. Now he is at the shelter and need urgent rescue due to showing barrier reactivity to other dogs and redirecting on staff. Due to this, he is no longer eligible for the adoption program and we need a rescue to step up and find him a home where he can relax and feel love once again. He may do best as the only dog in the home and may benefit from some professional training to work on his reactivity. Given time, love and compassion, he can be the perfect addition to your family.
