About rocky: Rocky ACCT-A-218459 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Rocky must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER and/or ADOPTER by Tuesday, May 13th, 2025 at 10AM. Should Rocky?s medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change.
Meet Rocky, a resilient and affectionate 4.5-year-old pup looking for a fresh start after a tough few months of transitions. Originally rehomed by his first owner, Rocky was then surrendered by his second family after just three months, through no fault of his own. Despite the instability in his life, Rocky remains a sweet, wiggly boy who greets everyone with a wagging tail and a heart full of love.
Rocky is the definition of a social butterfly?he's incredibly people-friendly, happily nuzzling into volunteers and seeking out affection wherever he goes. He allows all-over handling, even during medical care, and has proven himself to be both gentle and trusting as he heals from some minor wounds. Though he can be a little snatchy with treats, he's food-motivated and easy to redirect.
On walks, Rocky pulls only slightly and enjoys sniffing and exploring. He loves being outside and is eager to get out of his kennel, though he sometimes needs a little coaxing to go back in. In playgroups, Rocky has shown some curiosity about other dogs but tends to be more of an observer, keeping his distance and sniffing around the yard rather than engaging in direct play. He?s also lived with cats in his previous home and reportedly got along well with them.
Rocky is still learning to fully relax in the shelter environment, but with the right home?ideally one that gives him stability, structure, and plenty of love?he?ll blossom. Whether you?re looking for a loyal companion to share quiet walks, cuddle sessions, or just some relaxed company, Rocky could be your guy. Come meet this gentle soul and see why everyone at the shelter has fallen for him.

Behavior Notes:
Per volunteer 5/10: Rocky was very excited to get out of his kennel! It took a couple minutes to get him out of his kennel because he was so bouncy and excited. He is such a happy guy. We had lots of fun in the play yard. He gives great hugs and loves to be pet. Rocky was excited to see treats - he would accept them excitedly, then spit them right out. Overall just a happy guy!"
Per staff 4/26/25: Took Rocky out for a training- he was eager to get out of kennel and was a little difficult to leash since he was trying so hard to get out. Once out, he walked very nicely on leash and peed a ton of times outside. In the yard, he solicited attention, spit out the treat we gave him and checked out the yards for a few minutes. I had to step into kennel to return him.
Per volunteer 4/26/25: Rocky is a sweet, wiggly boy with a heart full of love and resilience. Despite some wounds he?s healing from, Rockey has been nothing but gentle and trusting, allowing all-over handling?even during medical care. He?s a true social butterfly, happily greeting volunteers with nuzzles and seeking out affection wherever he can find it.
Rocky enjoys exploring new spaces and is curious about toys, though he?s more interested in checking things out than chasing after them.
He?s food-motivated and already knows how to charm everyone at the shelter with his loose body language and wagging tail.

Kennel Presentation Easy to leash/social
Presented at the front of the kennel, paws up, eager to come out.
Leash Skills Pulls Minimally On Leash
Handleability Loose/Allows all handling
Despite his wounds, Rocky was nonreactive to touch on his head, ears, shoulders, back, hind, and limbs. Vet staff stopped by during our interaction to administer SSD cream; Rocky permitted all handling and was easily distracted by treats. In the volunteer office, he met three volunteers and was sociable, loose, and nuzzled up for affection before returning to walking back and forth throughout the room, exploring. Can be snatchy with treats. Earlier in the day, resisted slightly going back into kennel.
