About pancho: Pancho ACCT-A-150824 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Pancho must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER, FOSTER, or ADOPTER by FRIDAY, MAY 16TH at 10AM. Should Pancho's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Pancho is a joyful and intelligent dog who thrives on companionship. About 5 years old, he loves going for walks, romping in the yard, and cuddling up when it's time to relax. Pancho is also bilingual and understands both English and Spanish, making him a wonderfully adaptable companion. He came in as an owner surrender on April 28th due to some changes in the household. He knows "sit," takes treats gently, and delights in toys?especially Kongs. Pancho has participated in several playgroups and was noted to be forward and semi-steerable, with arousal levels that required occasional correction. Despite his enthusiasm, he?s shown the ability to coexist and even thrive with other dogs in structured settings. He enjoys toys, belly rubs, and exploring the outdoors?and he?s happiest when he?s close to the people he loves. We believe he would do best in a home where any children are over the age of 12. Please bring the entire family including any children and other dogs along for a meet. Due to his length of stay, Pancho is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner, foster, or adopter. He was easy to leash and walked pretty well. Pancho was very forward and frustrated on leash when he saw Boulder. We attempted a walk along and he was very forward, vocalizing his frustration, trying to pull towards Boulder and, had a high flagging tail. As to not build frustration, we attempted a face meet. They both sniffed each other for a second or two. I then felt a rumble through the leash as Pancho growled and snapped at Boulder. We ended the meet there and I brought Pancho back to kennel. He walked back great and hopped in his kennel with no problem. Per staff 5/11: Sweet, pulls towards other dogs. Per volunteer 5/10: Poncho is so sweet! He was SO excited in his kennel when he saw the leash. I initially had a hard time getting him out of the kennel because he was pushing his way through and started to tug on the leash, so I asked a staff member for help, who was able to easily leash him. Once out, Poncho walked happily to the yard. He was a strong puller on the way out. He loved toys, stuffies, and pets. He showed some reactivity to a dog through a fence and when seeing a dog about 20 feet away on leash - but calmed quickly with distance. Poncho walked very well back to his kennel! Such a good boy! Per staff 5/10: Playful! Per volunteer 5/9: Very curious, good boy. Per volunteer 5/8: Nice walk, good boy. Per staff 5/7: Playful, sweet. Per volunteer 5/6: Good boy, pulls a little. Per volunteer 5/2: Loves belly rubs! Per volunteer 5/1: Kennel Presence/leash: Pancho was very easy to leash and is pretty nice on leash with some minimal pulling. He loves to explore smells and walks leisurely to sniff along the way. He knows sit and takes treats super gently. Handling: He was medium energy outside with some romping, but also just sniffing around. He sniffed a small dog through the fence with a very wiggly body and alert ears. I took him to the volunteer office and he took pets from me. He got a bit jumpy and excited but was a very good boy! Toys: Found a stash of Kongs, which he really enjoyed?he lay on the ground for a while just chewing on the Kong. Allowed me to reach for the Kong when he was playing with it and didn?t have issues with guarding. Per staff 5/1: Playful. Per volunteer 4/29: Easy, calm. Per staff 4/29, playgroup: Semi-steerable, forward, pushy, aroused, takes correction. Per owner surrender notes: Personality: Very playful. Very loving. Needy for attention. Best thing about him: He?s very loving Lived indoors with adults, mostly housebroken, will go in a crate if needed but barks/whines/cries. High energy, walked 3x per day for 15-20 min, loves rope toys, balls, squeaky toys, bones, and stuffed animals. Eats 2x per day, enjoys chicken, rice, dog food, and tangerines. Sleeps on the bed, in another room, or on a dog bed. Responds to name, knows other commands. Favorite activities include exploring outdoors, running, walking, napping, spending time with owners, and independently playing with toys. Behavioral issues include separation anxiety, getting into trash, pulling on leash, and occasional accidents. Friendly with people and children. Nervous with dogs, has shown a high prey drive as well as aggression to cats outside but ?we did have kitten live with us for a few months and he was playful with them and would nap with them.? Has a high prey drive. Dream home: I would choose a Hispanic household (I speak to him in both English and Spanish) and where he has a big backyard where he can run all day (he had a big yard most of his life till we had to move). Favorite thing about him: ?When it is my down time and I just wanna relax, he?ll come and lay with me till I get up.? Other notes: ?He likes to stare out the window and bark at everything walking by. I would be careful leaving unsupervised food on the counter, cause he will go after it if he sees nobody around.? MEDICAL: On 5/3, Pancho was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection (URI) or "doggy cold" and started on medication. He tested negative for pneumovirus. During his intake exam on 4/28, Pancho weighed 56.7 pounds and was noted to be neutered. He had slight eye discharge, dry ears, clean skin, and he had yellow staining on his teeth. Overall, he appeared to be in good health. Due to being significantly overcapacity with dogs and cats and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted.
