Casia ACCT-A-216912 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Casia must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or ADOPTER by FRIDAY, JULY 4TH at 10AM. Should Casia?s medical or behavioral status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change.
Meet Casia, a high-energy sweetheart with so much love to give ? she?s just still learning how to share it.
Casia is curious, affectionate, and smart. She knows ?sit,? takes treats gently, and gives sweet tail wags once she feels safe. She enjoys exploring the outdoors and lights up around kind, patient people.
Casia originally came to the shelter as a stray on April 5th, along with another dog. She was adopted on May 10th but was surrendered back to the shelter on June 12th. Her return gave us a better understanding of what she truly needs: a home without young kids, and with adults who understand her needs and are comfortable working through some behavioral quirks.
In her previous home, Casia showed signs of resource guarding, growling when approached near her food, water, or toys. Although we have not seen this behavior at the shelter, as a precaution, Casia should not go to a home with children under the age of 10. She also didn?t get the full decompression time she needed, so she?s still working on building confidence and establishing boundaries.
With a home willing to provide space, structure, and continued training, Casia has every chance to thrive. She has done well meeting other dogs in a playgroup setting, so please bring everyone in your household ? including resident dogs ? for a meet and greet.
Casia is waiting for someone to give her the understanding and second chance she deserves. Due to her length of stay, she is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner or adopter.

Walksheet: No concerns were noted on any of her walks between 6/12 and 6/25. She was described as medium or high energy.
Per volunteer 6/25: Pulls a bit, fine on harness. Loves booty scratches.
Per volunteer 6/24: Switched to a harness style, she is strong on leash.
Per staff 6/12, playgroup: Steerable, neutral w/ dogs, curious, vocal.
Per staff 6/12: Sweet girl, calm on leash.
Per staff 6/11: Bright, alert, and responsive, a bit tense and stiff when approached, did not like restraint but allowed vaxx.
Per staff 6/11: Asked adopter for more info about dogs behavior with the growling, he stated that it's usually when the dog is either at her food/water bowl or has a toy in her mouth she will growl at the kids if they are walking by her or get close. Sounds like resource guarding.
Per owner surrender notes 6/11: Not a good fit for the home. Chewed various things even though she had chew toys. Lived with adults, children aged 10, 2, and 6 months, and a male dog. Mostly housetrained, crate trained, high energy. When asked about any behavior concerns, they noted she ?Kept having accidents even after walks, really possessive, growls at the kids and steals their food.? Never bit any person or animal. Knows sit. Eats dry dog food. Enjoys chew toys. Highly energetic towards strangers. Possessive and over protective towards children. High energy and playful towards dogs. They believe that her ideal home would be ?A home with no kids and a dog her size.?
Per email from adopter 5/18: I recently adopted Casia from the shelter. She is a sweet dog but recently her and my dog have been going at each other. They had a good meet when we were at the shelter. I?m noticing that they?ve been growling at each other especially when it comes to eating or playing with toys. My corgi eats in his cage in the living room and casia eats in the kitchen. We keep them separated anytime we aren't home and at night when we go to sleep. Casia is also very playful but she keeps jumping on him and he snaps and growls at her. It seems like she?s too much for him. We walk her twice a day to try to get her energy out but it?s seems like maybe she would be better in a home with a bigger dog and even older kids as she doesn?t understand her size. I would love to hear any advise you guys have as she is such a sweetie but it?s getting to be a lot for my dog.
Casia was adopted on 5/10.
Per staff 4/14: Did a fence meet with Kage. She had a middle tail wagging, ears back, approached with body to the side. We did not proceed further due to Kage's behavior.
When placing her back in the ISO crate she pancaked when I reached to take the leash off. I used treats to make her more comfortable.
Per staff 4/7:
KENNEL PRESENTATION: Casia was on the backside of her kennel laying down. I called her over to the front but she did not move so I closed the divider and went to the backside. She stayed laying down as i opened the divider and let me easily leash her. Once secured she came right out.
LEASH SKILLS: Pulls minimally ? walked with a tucked tail in kennel but a mid level wagging tail around people
HANDLING: In the room, Casia sniffed around curiously and was very affectionate. She is a timid and laid back girl with some uncertainty. She was a little nervous on and off but stayed pretty consistent with how social and friendly she was. She allowed all hadnl;ing and was tolerant as I checked her ears and feet specifically. She took treats gently and stayed seated before I could even ask her to. With some more and time and patience, her confidence will grow like her love for people did.
PLAY: Nervous but seemed interested
TOYS: Minimal interest
Per volunteer 4/5, playgroup: Gentle and dainty. Cautious at first. Began to open up the more time she was in the yard. Offered a couple play moves. Would benefit from more playgroup to open up more.

During her intake exam on 6/11, Casia appeared to be in good health, but she was head shy so didn?t allow a thorough exam of her ears. Her teeth had no staining or tartar and her coat was clean.
On 4/10, Casia was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection (URI) or \"doggy cold\" and prescribed 2 weeks of doxycycline. She tested positive for pneumovirus and continued to test positive for a few weeks. On 4/25, she was prescribed azithromycin for a persistent URI. At the time of adoption, she was still positive for pneumovirus.
On 4/8, Casia was spayed.
During her intake exam on 4/5, Casia appeared to be in good health, with just slight discoloring of her teeth. Her ears and coat were clean.
