About vermilion: Hello, my name is Vermilion . My animal id is #249974. I am a male brown dog at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 2 years 3 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a stray on 3/18/2026.
Vermilion is at risk due to behavioral reasons. While in care Vermilion has been observed to have a low threshold for arousal. Observed to jump up on handlers exuberantly and mouth them. During an adoption interaction, Vermilion began persistently jumping at the potential adopter and then began mouthing their hand. This resulted in broken skin and bleeding. Recently Vermilion has become increasingly kennel reactive. Noted to lunge and snap at the other dogs in the kennel room and in pop up crates. This behavior is not easily redirected. With handlers Vermilion is receptive to treats. Medically, Vermilion is apparently healthy.
