About ashiya: Hello, my name is Ashiya. My animal id is #246413. I am a desexed female gray brindle dog at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 2 years 2 months 4 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 2/14/2026, with the surrender reason stated as person circumstance- no time for animal.
Ashiya is at risk due to behavioral concerns. Ashiya arrived at the Care Center as owner surrender due to housing concerns. Ashiya's previous owner reported she is fearful of new people but did tolerate handling for a medical exam. During her stay, Ashiya has warmed up to staff, allows for easy leashing for walks, engages in fetch/trade games, and is social with staff. Recently however, Ashiya has shown increased reactivity to dogs and at times difficult to handle safely due to risk of redirection. In one instance when being reactive to a dog Ashiya turned and jumped up and bit a handler on the arm, no broken skin. Medically, Ashiya is apparently healthy.
