About koba: Intake Info: Koba (A2330086) was owner surrendered due to his owner working significantly more and being unable to provide him with the time and attention he needs. The owner reported increasing anxiety with panting and pacing. Koba reportedly guards food and treats around other animals but has never shown aggression toward people. Koba has unfortunately bounced around since then, which has likely contributed to his increased stress. Medical: Koba is a 5-year-old, fully processed dog currently being treated for hookworms. He has experienced significant weight loss, dropping from 83 lbs in March to 68 lbs currently. He has moderate dental disease with worn canine teeth and a small abrasion on his muzzle. Koba displays significant fear, anxiety, and stress, with concerning bradycardia (~50 bpm) and a possible abdominal mass effect noted on examination. Bloodwork was largely unremarkable aside from elevated sodium levels. Staff Notes: Koba was cooperative and did well during processing. Volunteer Notes: Koba joined a playgroup with both male and female dogs and entered with a good amount of energy. He was social with the group, though when a new male dog was introduced, Koba became overly focused and began getting in the dog's face. The session was ended proactively and remained a positive experience overall. Behavior Notes: Koba is social and steerable in playgroups with both male and female dogs. In the kennel, he exhibits high levels of stress, frequently flipping beds and buckets, and would benefit from increased enrichment and anxiety management. Request to Rescues: Koba is a handsome boy who needs additional diagnostics for his weight loss, possible abdominal mass, and bradycardia, as well as dental care and support for his anxiety. Per his previous owner, Koba is housebroken, knows commands, and previously lived successfully with both dogs and cats. Koba needs a rescue partner that can provide the medical follow-up, stability, and a calm environment where he can rebuild trust and bond with someone again. He is ready for a best friend.
