Bio Meet Sophie, a sweet and affectionate 8-year-old girl who loves being around people. She greets friends with a wagging tail, gentle kisses, and happily seeks out pets and attention. Sophie enjoys treats, walks well on leash, and has a loving, cuddly personality that shines when she's spending time with her favorite humans. Volunteers describe her as gentle and affectionate, happily leaning in for scratches and even jumping up for extra love. Due to capacity at the shelter, this pet is at risk. Notes To Adopter: Your new pet is due for heartworm and flea & tick preventative within three weeks of adoption. Due to the risk of heartworm and parasites, we recommend that your pet is maintained on these products all year round. Please consult with your veterinarian for products and product recommendations. Please do not bathe your pet until 10 days after surgery and / or two days after a flea and tick product was provided. Your pet is current on core vaccinations. Please consult with your veterinarian about a vaccine schedule for your pet. Please schedule a new pet exam with your veterinarian in the next 7 days. 6/7: DAS Alumni: This pet has previously been housed at our facility. Altered: yes Microchip found Appropriate vaccines and preventatives administered based on the health and DAS medical history of the animal. P appears BAR. Pet has been prescribed Doxycycline for 28 days as part of our new heartworm therapy. Pet is to go home with remaining Doxycycline prescribed. Shelter Observation 6/6/26: WALKS WELL, FREINDLY, WAGGING TAIL, DID LUNGE AT A BOX OF KITTENS AND HAS RAISED HACKLES, GROWLING, LUNGING AT DOGS IN LOBBY IN KENNEL, HAD TO USE PET CORRECTOR TO DIVERT HER ATTENTION
6/7/26: Very affectionate and gentle, greets with kisses and wagging tail, loves pets, able to enter kennel and she jumped up for affection and accepts treats 06/08/26: walking up to kennel she greeted me at door; tail wags;(easy to leash) outside she loved exploring the yard;loved cuddling;tail wags; very sweet girl

Playgroup Observation 6/8/26: This dog should be monitor small yard, kept to self, has stiff stance, and dogs kept a distance. PG2-Tolerant/No Playstyle

Owner Notes: 6/6/26: Sophie was surrendered after living with her family for eight years due to severe dog-reactive behavior in the home. The owner reported that Sophie attacked and killed one of the resident dogs and had begun bullying the household's older dog. While described as very sweet, cuddly, and affectionate with people, Sophie reportedly displays extreme reactivity toward other animals, including dogs, cats, and wildlife, and will lunge, bark, and attempt to bite when she encounters them on walks. Sophie is spayed, microchipped, potty trained, knows sit, and generally walks well on leash when no other animals are present.
She is currently heartworm positive.
