Diamond ACCT-A-253837 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to behavioral concerns. Diamond must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER by TUESDAY, JULY 28TH at 10AM. Should Diamond's medical or behavioral status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change.
Diamond came to ACCT Philly as an owner surrender on July 17th due to a combination of her behavioral concerns and her owner's lack of time and resources to meet her needs. She had always been deeply fearful of unfamiliar people and new situations, and would sometimes bark throughout the night, making it difficult for the family to manage. However, they noted that she loved cats and described her as housebroken, medium energy, and a devoted companion who loved cuddling, toys, treats, and following her favorite person wherever they went.
When Diamond feels frightened or cornered, she may respond with defensive behaviors such as growling, showing her teeth, and avoiding handling, particularly while in her crate. Staff who have earned her trust describe a very different dog. Once she feels safe, she'll happily lean in for attention, nuzzle into her handlers, and even gently place her paw on them when the petting stops. She has also had appropriate interactions with other dogs, including a small dog. Diamond is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner who can help her continue building confidence and show her that the world isn't quite as scary as it seems.

https://youtube.com/shorts/APnpQT_HLVc?si=82rUO7NbOVF2NR4dBEHAVIOR NOTES:
Per staff 7/24: Has been in my office overnight, allows me to walk her and gets low tail wags, whines and and is social. In the crate, growls, whale eye and snarls at me. She was in behavior team office, and when either of them come in, she is loose, wiggly, social and affiliative right away to them and it's not showing any of that behavior in the crate towards them.
Per staff 7/23: Meeting small dog Jay Z. Looser body - so happy to see the other handler, curious, it was quite adorable.
Per staff 7/20: When I came into the office this morning she was sitting in the bed in the crate. She did not have any accidents over night. She was trembling, lip licking and avoidant of eye contact when I came closer to the crate. Hesitant at first to leash up and then slowly walked out of crate letting me leash. Hyper vigilant walking through the kennels. Exit searching outside. Dandruff and panting with wide eyes darting outside. I crouched down and Diamond came over sitting next to me nuzzling her head into my arm. Explored the yard with her nose to the ground. Went right back into the crate and laid in the bed when we arrived back into the office.
Per staff 7/19: Brought Diamond into the behavior office for some downtime. She sniffed around and then laid down on the blanket I placed on the floor while I entered some notes. A couple people came in and she remained lying on the ground with wide eyes and ears forward. Needed a treat lure to go into the crate. Was in and out of the office the rest of the day most of the time she was sleeping soundly when we would come back in. Took out for a walk before leaving for the night. She meet Tanya (dog) while out. Good greetings and moved away on her own. I crouched down after Tanya left and Diamond came over nudging my hand and then pet her paw on my leg when I stopped petting. Went right back into the crate when we returning and used food to remove the leash with my hand. While she was in the crate I did bend down to pick up a piece of trash on the ground right next to the crate. She did give a low short growl when I did that.
Per staff 7/19:
Kennel Presentation: Laying in corner with wide eyes, ears to the side and tense body. I tossed a treat and she would only eat intermittently.
Leash Skills: Sat up pressing her body into the back of the kennel. Low growling and occasionally lip raising. I needed to lasso the leash, took a few tries.
Sociability: Asocial. Tense body, wide eyes, ears to the side and back. Side eyed and tail tucked when I lightly touched her back end. Not eating any treats. Pulling towards the parking lot (exit/owner searching).
Play: N/A
Dog Interaction: Met Ghost. Tolerant, avoidant and moved away.
Return to Kennel: Clipped the leash on the way back in and she went right into the kennel.
Color Level: Blue
Per staff 7/19: Changing to evaluate due to behaviors listed below along with surgery was not able to get out today.
Per staff 7/19: Low growling, lip lifting, baring teeth, whale eyes. Starting behavior medications.
Diamond was surrendered on 7/17.

She is fully housebroken, medium energy, and has never been crated. She sometimes pulls a little on leash. She likes any treats or snacks. She knows her name and the commands sit, lay down, no, and go potty. She enjoys balls, rope toys, squeaky toys, bones or durable chew toys, stuffed toys, and Kongs. She likes playing tug-of-war, hanging out with owners, being petted, and snuggling/cuddling with owners. Behavior issues include separation anxiety when home alone, being destructive of items in home/chewing things, getting into the trash can, being possessive of food (food guarding), being fearful of new people (stranger danger), being reactive/aggressive towards strangers. \"She is afraid of everything, she barks, she doesn't like strangers, she will growl, bark and whine, and if you get too close will show teeth but will not bite.\" Her reaction to children depends on the situation. She is neutral towards other dogs. She loves cats. Her ideal home would be someone with patience and sternness. The best thing about her is \"that she follows me everywhere and loves to cuddle.\"
Per owner 7/5: She is scary but a cuddler if she likes you. The best thing about her is she is a protector she doesn't like to see anybody hurt. She barks at strangers she is scared of everything thing fan mop etc.
Per owner 6/25: I can no longer afford to keep her, nor do I have the proper time to fully take care of her the way she should be cared for. She is afraid of everything and every person that she does not know. The best thing about her is that she is a lover when she gets used to you. She lived with adults, teens, children, and another dog. She is scared of everything even strangers will bark or whine or scurry. She will bark but will not bite.
