Bad Dog Meet (In Shelter)
**New video 7/26!**
Steak ACCT-A-254629 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to behavioral concerns. Steak must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or EXPERIENCED ADOPTER by MONDAY, JULY 27TH at 10AM. Should Steak's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change.
Steak arrived at ACCT Philly as a stray on July 4th. He was adopted after ten days but returned to the shelter four days later due to a worsening upper respiratory infection that left him unable to keep food down. Steak is a playful, energetic dog who loves attention and enjoys spending time with his people. Even when he's excited, he takes treats gently and has been cooperative with exams and routine care, especially when food rewards are involved. He's eager to greet both people and other dogs, though his enthusiasm can sometimes get the better of him. He can be mouthy during play and tends to come on strong in introductions, so he'll benefit from continued guidance and slow, appropriate social interactions.
Unfortunately, confinement has become increasingly difficult for Steak. His kennel stress has escalated to the point that he is pacing, spinning, and injuring himself while confined. Once he's out of his kennel, he's a fun-loving, active companion who is ready to put his energy into adventures instead. Steak is urgently looking for a calm, structured home with an experienced adopter or rescue partner who can continue channeling his enthusiasm into appropriate social interactions and help him thrive.

Per staff 7/24: Kennel is bloody from dog's paws bleeding. Heavy panting. Increased behavior meds this evening.
Per staff, playgroup 7/24: Steer test: 3/5 with water and 0/5 can. Ears back, pawing at the fence and mid tail slowly wagging at the gate greetings. Nose to the ground when he first entered the yard and then looked up running fast towards the other dog. Nosferatu spun around in a loose/playful way and Steak was hard air snapping in the direction of Nosferatu's neck. At one point he was on top of her and staff used a pet corrector to separate.
Per staff 7/24: During my morning walk through today, Steak was at the front of the kennel with red eyes, heavy panting, and had painted his kennel in feces from pacing.
Per staff 7/23: Just came out of iso and is spinning in his kennel.
Per staff 7/21: Steak and Sylvia: Forward greetings. Comes on strong with mouthy play. Will need a tolerant dog and slow/appropriate interactions.
Per staff 7/19: Medium-high energy. Puppy energy. Good on walk and on leash.
Per volunteer 7/19: Low energy. Good boy.
Per owner surrender notes 7/18: Neutral with strangers, children, and dogs. Don't know how he is with cats.
Per staff 7/5:
Kennel Presentation: At the front of the kennel with soft eyes, ears back and mid tail loosely wagging. Tossed a treat in and he ate it. Began to spin when I was coming close to the crate.
Leash Skills: Put front paws on the door when I was unlocking the crate. Pushing at the door, when I presented the leash and as I was going to leash he was nibbling at the leash. Needed to use a treat at the door to distract to leash up. Came right out and minimally pulled on the leash.
Sociability: Allowed all handling however can become jumpy. Sits for treats and takes them gently.
Play: N/A
Dog Interaction: Attempted to meet Arthor. Both dogs were pulling hard towards each other with tense bodies. Tried to turn Arthor so Steak could sniff, Arthor was not distracted by treats. Will need another dog meet.
Return to Kennel: Went right into crate and was able to remove leash with hand.
Color Level: Blue
Per staff 7/4: Very high energy dog. Was spinning in circles during intake. Was able to distract him with food to do vaccines, minimal restraint.
Per staff 7/4: Did snap on me when I attempted to scan him but was fine when staff came up and leashed him. Put on eval.
MEDICAL NOTES:
