07/30/2026 Intake Info: Hemi (A1892753) was surrendered to our shelter in May of this year, when his owner was no longer able to care for him. Medical: Hemi is an 11-year-old, 46-pound gentleman who is heartworm positive, geriatric, and living with arthritis. He is up to date on his vaccines and has been receiving medication to help keep him comfortable. Due to his arthritis, Hemi has difficulty rising, particularly on his rear legs, and walks with a noticeable limp in both his front and rear limbs. Behavior: Hemi is a social, easygoing dog who enjoys the company of other dogs. He has done well with both male and female dogs and especially enjoys smaller canine companions. During playgroups, he greeted other dogs appropriately and happily spent time relaxing in the yard. While he can be a bit persistent when first meeting a new dog, he responds well to redirection and settles quickly. During a Doggy Day Out, he was observed to be weak and at times appeared at risk of falling. Despite these mobility challenges, Hemi remains a sweet and gentle boy who deserves the comfort of a loving home. Volunteer Notes: Hemi is a mellow, affectionate senior who enjoys gentle attention and is easy to handle. Rescue Request: Hemi is currently enjoying a much-needed break from the shelter in a foster home, but he is still in need of a rescue commitment to help him find the loving home he ultimately deserves. Given his age, arthritis, and heartworm-positive status, Hemi would thrive in a quiet, comfortable home environment where he can continue receiving supportive care while enjoying his sweet senior stage of life.
