12-AUG-26 - Euthanasia - 08/12/26 13:37
** Final plea COB 8/19/26. not foster nor pawdition eligible **
Sweet and petite, Sunny is a 3-year-old tan American staff mix. She arrived at the shelter on 7/13/26 was adopted and then returned. Sunny has allowed handling and petting from staff and volunteers. She takes some time to warm up to people and the environment, but once she is comfortable she sleeps on the handler's lap and seeks attention. From what has been observed at the shelter, Sunny is selective with other dogs due to being uncomfortable and giving over corrections. Shortly after arriving at the shelter Sunny started displaying high levels of FAS in the kennel, jumping, barking, pacing. Sunny is to the point where she is harming herself in the kennel. The shelter is trying to manage Sunny's behavior by placing her in an office during the day, but she is still pacing in the office. PRC does not have enough resources nor proper environment for Sunny. If there is no commitment by deadline COB 8/19/26, humane euthanasia will be authorized.

12-AUG-26 - Interact - 08/12/26 08:23 Sunny had already painted to kennel in feces this morning when she was taken out to come in the office. Sunny allows all handling during bath time and solicts affection once in my office. Sunny continues to nap in my office and plays with toys but is starting to pace at my baby gate if I walk out the room. jh

12-AUG-26 - Observed - 08/12/26 07:28 Sunny's inside and outside kennel are painted with feces during AM rounds. When I passed her kennel she was pacing at kennel front whining -NMS

11-AUG-26 - Interact - 08/09/26 10:32 Sunny was jumping between kennel walls, spinning on kennel door, and pacing while hypersalivating while closed outside for AM cleaning. Sunny's chest and paws are wet from saliva and jumping into water bucket. Paw pads are raw and bleeding from jumping on the kennel door. When I unlocked Sunny kennel she started jumping on the door and barking. She was lured down with a treat and leashed easily. She walked without a pull to the yard. Once there she walked the perimeter and went potty, then began exit searching. If I called her to me she would come to me and solicit affection, play with toys, or take treats. When not actively engaging with her, she would return to exit searching. She walked by my side for the walk back to kennel but pulled against the leash when I attempted to guide her into kennel. She followed me into her kennel and was easily unleashed, attempted to exit with me when I left her kennel. As soon as I shut the door behind me Sunny returned to pacing and barking. -NMS

11-AUG-26 - Interact - 08/11/26 15:32 Sunny has been a great guest in my office today. Sunny is soliciting more affection and has a loose relaxed body. She is walking a little more on leash but it is still painful for her to walk on the concrete. She enjoys playing with her stuffed toys. jh

10-AUG-26 - Interact - 08/10/26 09:10 This morning I observed Sunny pacing, hypersalvating and ping ponging off the sides of her kennel walls. There has a increase in her FAS in the past week. jh

10-AUG-26 - Interact - 08/10/26 11:50 Sunny was screaming and barking and running back and forth in her kennel this AM, she had caused her paws to rip and start bleeding and she was smearing the blood all on the kennel floors and walls. Her inside kennel was covered with blood and feces to an extreme degree. She had blood and fecal matter all on her legs, feet and abdomen as well. She continued jumping while I unlocked the door but once opened, she stood still to be leashed. She walked calmly out of the kennel without pulling and stayed right by my side. She did not react to any of the dogs she passed. She walked with me to laundry to get a towel and shampoo and we went to the show yard so I could bathe her. She stood still for the entire bath, when I hosed her, scrubbed her, rinsed her and dried her she never moved and allowed the whole process to be done easily. When we were done she walked calmly to the shelter managers office and went in and unleashed easily. A few minutes later I walked by and she was sleeping on the bed JEH

10-AUG-26 - Interact - 08/10/26 15:46 Sunny has been in my office throughout the day due to high kennel stress. She has been napping on and off throughout the day. Her paws are raw from pacing the kennel so I pick her up to place her in the grass. She has allowed all handling and wags her tail when she receives attention. jh

09-AUG-26 - Interact - 08/06/26 13:42 Per Volunteer: Sunny was loose and wiggly at her kennel door, and she eagerly ate a treat. When I introduced the leash, she ran to the other side of her kennel, so I stepped in and she was easily secured. She cautiously walked out to the parking lot, occasionally her head lowered and tail tucked. Once outside she paused and would not move forward, standing stiff observing her environment. Two volunteers came over, and gave her gentle pets. She walked approximately 20 feet in total (pausing about every 5 feet), and would resume forward movement only after being coaxed and getting down to her level. Each time I called her, she would loosely walk over to me and she allowed pets on her chest and flank. She walked back to her kennel coaxing her with treats along the way. Sunny was easily returned and unleashed. - CL

05-AUG-26 - Interact - 08/03/26 11:56 Per Volunteer: Sunny was lying on her bed as I approached, she walked over to her kennel door and gently ate a treat. When trying to leash her she retreated back to her bed. I stepped into her kennel, sat down and offered her treats, and she was leashed while lying in her bed. Sunny walked out slowly, with a semi relaxed body and tail. Once outside she immediately relieved herself. We went for a short walk, and she nervously pause along the way. Sunny did allow me to pet her on her back and flank area. She was easily returned and unleashed. - CL

---

04-AUG-26 - Interact - 08/02/26 11:13 Pacing in her kennel while shut inside or outside during AM cleaning. When staff or volunteers pass her kennel Sunny runs to kennel front, jumping and barking then spins off of walls as they walk away.

08/02/26 15:14 Sunny began muzzle punching her kennel front at passing dogs. Passing dogs were ignoring Sunny. When I stopped to unlock her kennel Sunny put her paws up on her kennel front, but was lured down with a treat and easily leashed. She pulled to the nearest yard. In the yard she would chase toys but not engage with them, took treats gently, and solicited affection. She allowed all over body petting and pressed into me, laying down on my feet for belly rubs. Sunny was reactive to passing dogs, running the fence line and barking. On kennel return Sunny had a mild pull, she was tense but not reactive to passing dogs, but did pull toward her reactive neighbor. Sunny was unleashed in kennel without issue. -NMS
