Eve is a sweet, easygoing senior girl who came to ACCT Philly as an owner surrender on August 19th. She is generally low-energy and easy to walk, enjoys playing with toys and chasing the water hose, and has been affectionate and tolerant of handling. Her owner reported that she does not like other animals, and while Eve has met some other dogs at the shelter, she can be tense during greetings.
Eve has an upper respiratory infection (URI), with concern for pneumonia. She is not eating and is currently being treated with antibiotics, an appetite stimulant, and supportive care. Eve would love a patient home that can give her the time and support she needs while she gets back to feeling her best. Due to her medical concerns, Eve is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner or adopter.

Per volunteer 8/22: Low energy. Slight issues returning - gentle tugs, stepped in with her. Through fence, initially good with Sadie, then heard Eve growl. No interest in toys.
Per staff 9/5:
Kennel Presentation: Laying on the bed when I approached with soft eyes and ears to the side. Spoke to her softly and she came to the front.
Leash Skills: Dodged the leash at first. Once leashed came right out of kennel. Minimally pulled on leash. Immediately went to the bathroom. She tends to walk right next to you or slightly in front of you.
Sociability: Allowed all handling with soft eyes, ears to the side and mid to low tail occasionally wagging.
Play: She loved chasing after the water hose.
Return to Kennel: Hesitated to go back into kennel. Needed to take one step in and she followed. Removed leash with hand.
Color Level: Blue
Per staff 8/21:
Tolerated all handling, exam, and treatment. Very interested in smelling around the room, in every corner. Greeted everyone in the room. Very wiggly girl.
Per staff 8/21:
Medical staff member needed help returning her to her kennel, greeted me with soft eyes, ears back, loose body, low tail wags. Started to jog to her kennel, put on the brakes when we got close, would go up to her kennel for treats, would not hop in. Tried a half step which did not work either. With leash pressure she pulled back with wide eyes and her ears back. The staff member mentioned that she had not been outside yet and seemed like she may need to go potty. I took her for a quick walk and she went to the bathroom right away outside. Walking back she put the brakes on at the start of her row, with a jog we made to her kennel where she started to buck. Needed a second handler to do a belly loop to get her into kennel. Tried to push her way back out, had to hold the door steady and was able to remove my leash with the clip.

Kennel Presentation: In the back part of her kennel when I approached. Came to the front with soft eyes, ears to the side and tail down not moving.
Leash Skills: Easy to leash and came right out of kennel. Mildly pulled on leash. Some hesitation to walk on the pebbles outside. I did notice her nails were pretty long as well.
Sociability: Tolerated pets, occasionally leaning in. Eyes darting, scanning the parking lot. Not eating treats outside.
Dog Interaction: Met Ace. Pulled hard towards him with tense body, hard staring and mid tail slowly moving. Able to sniff and be sniffed.
Return to Kennel: Went right into kennel and removed leash with hand.

Did so good in dog intake! Solicited pets from everyone in room, let me handle all over. Loves any food you give her. When giving her vax she licked the cream cheese off door but when she was poked she did turn around, but not in an aggressive way. She let me finish her pokes and then let ACA bear hug her head for the chip which she didn't even flinch for.
Per staff 8/19:
Owner told staff that dog previously bit another dog. Has no bite history to people.

Housebroken, knows commands, doesn't like other animals.
MEDICAL NOTES:
9/3 Vet Exam:
Not eating and suspected pneumonia. Persistent nasal discharge and not taking medications. Suspected infectious pneumonia with anorexia secondary to pneumonia. Given fluids, anti-nausea medication, and an appetite stimulant, and switched to different antibiotics.
8/24 Tech Exam:
Eve was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection (URI) or \"doggy cold.\" URIs are contagious to other dogs, but not to people or other types of animals. She was started on antibiotics.
8/21 Vet Exam:
Moderate to severe ear discharge. Diagnosed with ear infections; ears were cleaned and treated.
8/19 Intake Exam:
Ears were inflamed and waxy. Coat was clean, but skin was itchy. Heavy staining was present on all teeth.
