Taranis ACCT-A-264422 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to behavioral concerns. Taranis must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or ADOPTER by SATURDAY, OCTOBER 17TH at 10AM. Should Taranis's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change.
Meet Taranis! This handsome, clever boy has so much potential and is looking for someone willing to help him shine. He is highly food-motivated, knows sit and paw, and enjoys fun, treat-based games that give him an opportunity to engage with his person. He has been easy to leash and return to his kennel, and with the right support, he has the opportunity to build new skills and become a successful companion.
Taranis struggles when encountering other dogs and may become intensely focused on them, barking, lunging, and pulling hard on leash. He can also be sensitive to loud noises and easily overstimulated by his surroundings. Because of these challenges, Taranis will need a committed person who can provide patience, structure, and ongoing behavioral support. A securely fenced yard would be a major benefit, along with a no-pull harness and private training with a qualified, certified professional dog trainer to help him work through his reactivity and develop healthier responses to the world around him.
We are urgently looking for a rescue or adopter who can give Taranis the chance to decompress and receive the individualized support he needs. He is recommended for a home with children 8 and older. The shelter environment can be especially challenging for dogs experiencing dog reactivity, and we want to help Taranis find placement before his stress leads to further deterioration. With an advocate in his corner, a thoughtful management plan, and a commitment to training, Taranis has the potential to make progress and thrive in a home environment with the right support.
Taranis needs someone willing to see his potential, support him through his challenges, and give him a real chance to succeed. Could you be the fresh start he needs?

Per volunteer 10/12:
Easy to leash, came right to the front., Rowdy & jumpy, but still easy Pulled moderately, Pulled Hard, Would not walk Yes, I handled the dog. Neutral behavior mostly, a little tail wagging Walked right into kennel and unleashed without issue \"Does not like loud noises, like air purifier and ac unit outside. Fixated on other dog and pulled a bit \"
Per staff 10/12:
kids 8+
Per staff 10/12:
Kennel Presentation: another handler got him out
Leash Skills: pulls strongly, harder with lunging when seeing other dogs
Sociability: very food motivated! Toss treats as he is snatchy. Knows sit and paw, and we played the \"where's the puppy\" game - Without treats present, did not pay attention to me and sniffed around or was visually scanning around him
Play: did not do
Dog Interaction: met Krozi- vocal, fixated, pulled, lunging. Tolerant of being sniffed when distracted. Saw another dog on the lawn and was pulling hard and barking
Return to Kennel: easy
Color Level: Blue, very strong and over reacts when sees other dogs
Recommendations and considerations: no pull harness, private training lessons with a CPDT, fenced in yard so aren't reliant on walks while working through the dog-dog reactivity
Per staff 10/12 (Regarding meet with Krozi):
Very food motivated and able to be redirected- tolerant of being sniffed when distracted- when face to face at the fence and on leash: agonistic pucker, barking, lunging, piloerection
Per staff 10/11:
Did not make it into playgroup, came up to the fence high still tail, low growling and hard barked.
Per finder 10/9:
Taranis was found a week ago and was brought to the shelter because the finder was unable to keep him long term. They described him as being great, calm, and noted that he walks well on leash.
