Julian is on the At-Risk List due to medical concerns. He has persistent dilute urine, a distended abdomen, skin/coat changes, and bloodwork abnormalities concerning for an underlying endocrine disease such as Cushing's disease; thyroid abnormalities and possible urinary disease were also identified. Further diagnostics and ongoing medical management are recommended after placement. Julian also has significant fear/stress with handling, which makes necessary diagnostics and medical management challenging.

Julian was surrendered as a stray so we have no history on his behavior in a home environment. Julian has shown fearful behavior while at the care center, and has not acclimated well. He has been highly reluctant to leave his kennel, lying at the back of his kennel when staff have attempted to leash him, and avoidant of handling, escalating to growling during medical handling. Due to his fearfulness, we recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based) and re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home.
