Taking to the Skies
Opey came into the shelter in February of 2015. He was only 4 months old. He had been seized by Animal Control because it was the middle of winter and Opey didn?t have anywhere to get in from the frigid cold weather and he didn?t have adequate food or water. This little pup was living in squalor!
All of the staff liked the spirited little guy and he was selected to get fixed so that he could go to adoption events. Opey went to many adoption events, but, he continued to be passed over for the cute, little puppies.
Fortunately, for Opey, a wonderful lady in Florida saw his picture, on one of the adoption websites, and fell for him! When someone wants to adopt from another state, there is almost always the problem of transportation. So the Adoption/Rescue Coordinator set to work to see if she could find a way to get Opey to his adopter in FL.
She reached out to a group called Pilots N Paws to see if anyone could take Opey to his waiting forever home. Not long after the post was put up, two pilots had answered the call. Unfortunately, one of them had a mechanical problem, so that mission was scrubbed. Fortunately for Opey, another pilot stepped up and a date was set. Opey got his health certificate and his bags were packed and he was ready to go!
Friday (1/29) Opey went to the airport and took flight to Tallahassee, FL.
