A5078863 India is a dainty 2-year-old red-and-white spayed female Chihuahua who was found as a stray in La Puente and brought to the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center on June 16th. Weighing 9 lbs, India is initially a little shy meeting new people in the chaotic shelter environment (and she can get a little \"snippy\" and try to avoid), but she warms right up with a gentle approach. in fact, she took a few minutes in her kennel to size up our volunteer, but once the volunteer sat down and talked to her, she jumped right into her lap! She enjoys snuggling in warm arms and being petted. She walks respectably on leash, too, but can be resistant to having the leash put on her if you go too fast. She is uncertain around other dogs, and we've no way to know if she'd be the same in a less threatening environment. India is a lovely little deer-like dog who is responding to her frightening situation by being guarded. We think she will be a devoted indoor pet and best friend in a mature (adults or adults and teens) home where she feels secure and is treated with patience and dignity.
