The behaviors described today reflect the dog's responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out-or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences. He was defensively barking at the gate as the runner approached. He approached with light coaxing and had a low tail wag and soft eyes. He suddenly began growling and retreated to the rear of the kennel. He reapproached the gate with a low head and concerned eyes as the runner opened the gate while coaxing him. He flinched as the leash was presented and dodged it several times. Once the leash was on he exited the kennel willingly. He pulled moderately on leash, straight ahead while walking to the catch pen. As he entered the pen, he focused on a handler, postured his body and bark repeatedly. He was very wary of the collar, moving his head out of the way and side-eyeing the runner. As the runner tried placing the collar around his neck, Oliver head whipped and bit the collar. He was brought into the yard on a secured loop leash. He was not interested in any other dogs as he roamed the perimeter, keeping to himself. A female pit bull came up to him calmly. He exposed all of his teeth as she came within five feet, warning her for space. A calm female rottweiler came up a few moments later. Oliver growled and exposed his teeth while backing away. He briefly roamed the perimeter next to the handler and showed no further interest in the other dogs. Due to his behavior in the previous home with small dogs and behavior in the care center, he is designated as RESCUE ONLY WITH KNOWN HISTORY OF AGGRESSION DISCLOSURE
