The behaviors described today reflect the dog's responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out-or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.
He was standing in the back of the kennel with concerned eyes and growling. The runner kneeled at the gate and coaxed him to approach. He approached slowly with wide eyes and a tucked tail, stretching to sniff without fully committing. He then retreated to the rear of the kennel and continued growling. The runner closed the guillotine gate, securing him in the back of the kennel. The runner approached him from the back side where Tux continued to growl. The gate was cracked open and the leash was presented. The runner touched his side with the leash and Tux froze. As the leash was placed in front of Tux, he head whipped and began to rapidly snap at it. The runner did not feel safe removing him from the kennel at this time. Due to his handling sensitivity in the care center, he is designated as RESCUE ONLY
