The behaviors described today reflect the dog?s responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out?or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences. He walked well on leash, next to the runner. He would periodically jump on the runner, throwing his body against him while walking to the catch pen. He was focused with a high stiff tail while being collared in the catch pen. He was brought into the yard on a long, loose leash. He froze while side-eyeing with a stiff tail and hackles raised as a calm male pit bull came up to greet him. The pit bull backed away from Toby quickly. Toby then approached a female shepherd with soft eyes, allowing her to sniff his body and linger near his muzzle. He then started making hard eye contact with both handlers as they walked by him. He eventually relaxed and began seeking affection with one of them. He remained calm and spent a few minutes roaming the yard. He would freeze and focus on any dogs that made any quick movements or were playing. The female shepherd came back up to him calmly. Toby growled and exposed his teeth, warning her for space. The shepherd backed away, respecting the warning. Toby did not interact with any other dogs. Due to his history and behavior in the care center, he is designated as BEHAVIORALLY OK FOR PUBLIC ADOPTION, NO DOGS (REQ), MEDIUM ENERGY WITH KNOWN HISTORY OF AGGRESSION DISCLOSURE
