Eval Comments: The behaviors described today reflect the dog's responses in an Animal Care Center environment and during assessment. A
dog's behavior in an Animal Care Center may differ significantly from how they behave in a home. Stress, confinement, and unfamiliar surroundings can cause dogs to act out-or suppress behaviors that may emerge later. A dog's behavior may change based on surroundings, training, medical, socialization, and life experiences.
He pulled moderately on leash in all directions and periodically mouthed the leash while walking to the catch pen. He was wary of the collar, licking his lips but tolerated it being placed around his neck. He entered the yard calmly and was tolerant of several dogs coming up to greet him. He was wary of a male pit bull who enticed play and just backed away. He spent a few minutes roaming the yard and began to relax. The male pit bull enticed him for play and Benton bnefly appeared to be interested as he tapped his feet, but full play did not erupt. A male husky was introduced into the yard. He came up to Bentor: and started to neck press him. Benton took several steps back and attempted to avoid an altercation. Without provocation, the husky lunged at Benton, trying to grab his neck. Benton continued to retreat until the handlers stepped in and broke the aggressors focus with their tool. Benton then spent some recovery time in the yard. He eventually befriended a female sharpie. The two spent a long time roaming with each other and eventually sunbathing together. He needs leash training and continued socialization. BEHAVIORALLY OK FOR PUBLIC ADOPTION, ADULTS (REC), CALM DOGS (REC), MEDIUM ENERGY

He had soft eyes and a neutral tail as the handler approached. He was relaxed as the handler rubbed the top of his head and looked into his ears. He was not comfortable with the handler's hand near his muzzle, tuming his head away with concemed eyes and ears back. He relaxed with light coaxing, allowing his tail and rear paws to be held without issue. He was not comfortable with his front paws being touched as he pulled them away quickly and tumed away from the handler.
